That's a pretty confusing battle scene. I'm GUESSING the Avengers and Magneto are protecting Wanda while the X-Men are trying to stop her?

Nice pencils. The Latverian Prom pose still kills me.

I wonder if that would work, with him being an ionic entity rather than any sort of organic being.

Man, I need to get some cash and buy some Cheung

Is anyone else a little disappointed that the Young Avengers appear to be notable by their absence in this money shot?

This scene reminds of the Sentry vs. Everybody one at the end of Dark Reign. In the midst of all that carnage, I kept expecting Franklin Richards (aka the most powerful mutant on the planet) to step in and stop it (or at least for someone, say Val or Ben, to even think of using Franklin). What's the point of having a deus ex machina character (and Wanda herself has been made into one of these) everyone in the 616 is aware of if no one is willing to bring up the said character and their abilities when the bad stuff goes down.

I know, I know, its comics but still...

Consciousness -and thus the mind as a concept- is by no means bound to physical brain in the Marvel Universe. Hell, there are beings made of pure thought, and those are often the best telepaths.
Either way, a being made solely of energy still has thoughts, memories and emotions that can be manipulated. Emma could simply force him to relive a gruesome memory over and over again. She's quite fond of that.

Stylistically, it reminds me of the cover of X-Men #1

And lord knows Simon has a few of those knocking around, like dying the first time.

Some energy beings have shown to be if not immune then at least highly resistant to this type of attack, though. It's just logical in most cases - if your 'brain' is made of light then it's going to be a heck of a hurdle for someone who operates on chemical electricity to catch your thoughts.

I'm reminded of (a sick) but novel tactic Proteus used against Jean Grey. He incapacitated her by making her feel as if she had been buried alive for six months.

I was thinking the same thing. Conceivably Simon could be hurt by having his ions scrambled, but that would require Emma to be a telekinetic, not a telepath.

Wanda meant to say "No more Omega Level Mutants," was distracted by her cell phone, said "No More Mutants" instead, then thought, "Oh crap."

"Hey Magneto, we agreed we would never talk about it, but I have to ask: how are you deflecting my eye blasts?"
"MAGNETISM!"
. . .
"That's what you said last time too, but magnet's don't-
"MAGNETISM!"
"Bu-"
MAGNETISM!"
"Fine, whatever. One last thing though: how did you get Rogue to-"
"MAGNETISM!"

In "Emperor Doom", IIRC, Simon was immune to Purple Man's power, even when it was enhanced by some sort of amplifying prism crystal thingie.

Magneto has always had a lot more powers than just electromagnetics It got to the point that the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe had to suggest he had some sort of link to the notion of the Unified Field Theory since he manipulated the entire EM spectrum, gravity and psionic energy, to say the least.

I always held on to the belief that Magneto's powers worked the way the plot needed them to. Just as long as they weren't obviously out of his department like pyrokenisis or telepathy.

The X-Men were in favour of murdering her before she changed the world in House of M, as I recall. So most likely.

But isn't Purple Man's power over the mind pheremone based? Not through some link to a higher conciousness like the way some telepaths seem to work.

I had to look it up, but yes, looks like they are. I stand corrected.

I'd assumed the big crystal thingie was a psionic amplifier, not sure how it would work spreading pheremones across the entire globe to the extent it affected several billion people at the same time, but hey, "Comics!"
