Greetings True Believers!

This is one of my favorite Avengers beat-downs. It's from Avengers #54/469.

Cap teaches Kang the Conqueror a painful lesson.

Enjoy!

Kang took over the Earth and the Avengers defeated him but he's not done yet.

And that's how you do it.

Caps better than me cuz I would've kicked the living shit out of Kang while he was ont he ground.

Kang War pushed Kang into unforgivable douchebag territory. But I still thought it was a cool story arc.

No, it should have been a couple, three pages of the Avengers talking about how awesome is, instead.

And yet, awesome though this scene was, it always grated just a little that the whole thing was undone in about an issue, the planetary level devastation that was rained down has never been mentioned by anyone again. And yet the Stamford Incident led to the Civil War....

And before this, the Leader set off a Gamma bomb in Middletown, Arizona, killing 5,000.

Pains me to say it, but that's where Civil War makes more sense - in the Marvel U, a Stamford would be a huge deal. In the DCU, meh. And a Kang World War in Marvel is ridiculous - every story, in every title would be totally changed.

What happened was, the AVENGERS creative team told all the other writers and editors what they were planning and told them they could reference it or tie-in if they wanted to. The only folks who took them up on the offer were the THUNDERBOLTS people, though.

Frankly, I find that method preferable, given the kind of clunkers that forced crossovers and even tie-ins tend to produced (and we can all name some).

'All right'.

You know you're Captain America when your Pre-Asskicking One-Liner is two words long.

I still like Kang better. Never read him before Young Avenger, though. So I have a soft spot for him in my heart. And, without seeing the endless evil he has done in this story, I still like him here for his sense of warrior honor.

You should read this whole story, if you ever have the opportunity. It's very much worth checking out. The very end, what Kang does, what happens... I won't spoil it, but it's the defining moment for the character in my own limited Marvel experience.

Sympathetic while still being a monster, no less. Hell of a feat.

To be brutally honest, a lot of people really didn't like Todd.

One of my favourite moments from Busiek's Avengers arc, and there were a lot of moments! Kang War was excellent.

Eh, Captain America's a badass, but to be frank, Kang went into this fight looking for defeat, (for reasons!) and was actually fairly satisfied with the way it turned out, so not the best example of why you don't step to Cap.

To reduce this scene down to Internetz levels...
