For legality, the debut of Selina's current outfit, from Catwoman 1.

Taking place some months after the end of her previous series and the events of Selina's Big Score, Selina is having something of an identity crisis, as her public Selina Kyle persona was "killed" in New York by Catwoman, while the disaster that was the Big Score heist has left her feeling uncomfortable with putting on her old Catwoman costume.

She's in therapy with Lelie Thompkins, and she mentions how she isn't really sure who she is, and is trying to sort things out in her head. Eventually she decides go out running on Gotham's rooftops, and while doing so sees the Riddler robbing people while being pursued by Batman.

Watching Selina wonders if this her world now, being trapped between boy scouts like Batman and crazy people like the Riddler. She then beans one of Eddie's henchmen in the head with a brick when she sees that he's going to shoot Bruce in the back, while commenting to herself that she and Bruce have been at odds since the start.

It's so much Selina's usual MO that Bruce's beans are pretty much a constant shade of light blue.

You know, Miss Hathaway, keep wearing fun hats, keep fighting fools while eating apples, and generally be a badass, I might actually start seeing you as Selina Kyle.

Also, I'm so glad that DC's doing a new bigger trade releases of Brubaker's Catwoman--I had only read some of the trades through a local library before, and would like to own them. :D

You called it nicely. She's certainly Selina Kyle, as Christian Bale is much more Bruce Wayne. The costumes and personas are window dressing as far as the movies are concerned.

Plus, she looks like she needs theme music. Something by Billie Holiday would work nice.

And I wanna see more of this apple eating fool whipping.

The thing I loved about Darwyn Cooke's design wasn't just the simplicity of the costume. It was also that, while she still carried that sexiness that Catwoman SHOULD have, it wasn't overly or ridiculously sexualized like say, Jim Balent's design.

Here, she looks like a relatively short, compact gymnast. She LOOKS like someone who does a lot of tumbling and trapezing.

Sadly, after the art changed around issue 25 of this series, I could no longer enjoy the book. This Animated Series style of art was perfect for the stories that Brubaker was telling.

And yes, I do find it somewhat hilarious that there's actually a number of fans over at CBR who actually want the cheesecake costume back. I'll be happy if the black leather look sticks for another ten years.

Well, that's all just because Darwyn Cooke is awesome.

I love his artwork, but I can't say I'm hugely keen on the regimented layout of the Catwoman stuff he did. It feels old fashioned (which can be good, I guess) and sort of lacks... dynamism.

I've got to say, too, that this redesign of Catwoman's costume is possibly the best revamp a comic book had offered since Nightwing dropped the Discowing outfit in favour of the blue and black. It's practical, realistic, yet effortlessly sexy and slinky.

Anne looks great but she's missing the best part of Darwyn's design - that fantastic hairdo.

I wish Darwyn Cooke did the reboot designs instead of Jim Lee if it meant everyone was getting what he did to Selina here. Practical, sexy, unfussy. I'm sure it would have won awards.

He needs his own book come to think of it...

At this years TCAF, he said that he's taking a break from Parker and working on something for DC, but couldn't discuss it. He did say, though, that DC has a very, very, scary NDA, so he REALLY couldn't discuss it.
Anyone ever seen a DC NDA? Wonder what the penalties are? Must be pretty aggressive to scare Darwyn, a guy who usually doesn't give a flying feck about such things. (At TCAF 1, he showed the prototypes for the New Frontier figures, a year before they where released!)

Yikes! I'd believe it, as at his panels at Dragon*Con he's been similarly forthcoming. Part of what makes me think he's got a Western up his sleeve is not only that page of Vigilante art, but that he and Jimmy Palmiotti both cancelled last minute from Dragon*Con this year.
