Peej may clearly wear the pants in any relationship that she's in, emasculate any man who dares to come on too strong, be the one to punch through walls and amputate arms to protect the people she loves, and she may even enjoy living up to her reputation of being an arrogant, brash hardass (pun possibly intended) that doesn't take any bullshit from anyone.

But when it comes to spending *quality* time with others, or showing other emotions besides anger, she feels more vulnerable than an actor standing naked on stage in front of a live audience.

On the other hand though, Kara's loss of both Helena and Kal-L may be the very reason she doesn't like getting close to others. The one time that she did get very close to someone and had a family, it was too painful for her to lose them, so she (understandably) closed herself off emotionally. She'd much rather channel all her anger fighting to the death against a foe to protect those she cares about, than to experience those losses all over again. An excellent case in point? Satanna hitting Kara's berserk button in the previous issue by refusing to disclose the location of Terra's brain when Utra-Humanite took over her body.

Let's be fair: Satanna earned getting her arm shot off. She switched Atlee's brain with Ultra-Humanite's brain, blowing off her arm is a heck of a lot nicer than I'd have been, considering she could have killed Atlee. Heck, I'd have made her and all her animal friends disappear (into the sun or maybe Jupiter if I'd done that trick too many times) for that.

Maybe I'm dead inside, but...is anyone else a little uncomfortable with the waterfall of emotion-connecting? Kara has her walls up for a reason, but suddenly it's all gone and they're getting all cozy. Atlee doesn't tell her until after the fact that it gets rid of your inhibitions. If I were Kara, I'd like to know that before I got into there so I would have the choice. Kara might not have said "yes" to going in there if she had known.

In my many decades of surrendering hard-earned cash to American comic book publishers, Palmiotti & Conner's PG run is among the best I've ever read. It's a shame that Nu52 killed her off just as they finally got her right, after SO MANY decades of trying.
