Four pages from the issue...

The mission is to assassinate an arms dealer and recover his briefcase. And for political and bureaucratic reasons, the client wants it done over international waters.

Heheh. The "Alpha Dawgs" and Slade throwing the soldiers out into the ocean was funnier. If it keeps up like this, I might pick this up in trade. :)

I would have thought Slade would insist on picking his own team, and have the connections to pull one together.

Nothing says "I want to be taken seriously as a mercenary" like wearing your hair in pigtails. *shakes head, wanders off*

Just keep picturing Ron Perlman in this role and it gets better and better (that's who I cast in my Secret Society film, so...)

Ah yes, "Alpha Dawgs", the cannon fodder; the new meat we feed into the grinder to show just how experienced and "badass" Deathstroke the fantasy villain (Look at that damn armor! Look at it!) is. They're already dead aren't they?
I remain completely unenthused. Call me when they get the charactarization right and dial him down from "Bat-God" levels of overpowered.

I'll admit that does make things better.

Right on the damn money. On all counts. It really pissed me off too.

Biod's comment a little farther down pretty much summed up the issue perfectly!

What pissed me off most about this was that Higgins spent half the issue setting up what could have been a really awesome concept then at the end axed it completely without warning.

I was enthused and the 'dawgs' attitudes actually got a laugh. The twist ending just to have a twist ending and prove a vague concept about lone wolf bad-assery completely fell flat. All Higgins needed was the action sequence of the book to bring his point across.

I will give Higgins credit for the ACTION in the book because it was good and showed off what Slade can do. I loved that part of it. It will keep my coming back to the book for at least a couple more issues.

aw, man. I really laughed at this. I thought this would be a really fun concept with the "Dawgs"

but they're just redshirting it, aren't they. Boo.

I'm all for carpet bombing his twitter account with 'WTF!! that could have been awesome what were you thinking comments!' If we all band together we might get a decent story out of this book before DC axes it.

Calling Deathstroke 'lovetap' is just... well you know... weird in disturbing ways.

A polite and simple "I enjoyed the comic but I felt the potential was diminished by cheap and used storytelling in the end just to establish Deathstroke as badass" might go quite a longer way to achieve that goal.

And you know, not carpet-bombing his twitter.

Because eventually there comes a time where we must look back at all of the examples of the past from the Internet and realise when we're being useful and when we're just making a fool out of our legitimate complaints.

I guess I should have added a 'just joking' comment onto the end of my last one. *sighs*

Constructive crit was what I meant. I would have loved, really loved, to see something good come out of this book but after reading the interviews and comments Higgins has given in regard to it over the last couple of months what we got yesterday was pretty much exactly what I expected to get.

It wasn't the complete wash I expected at least but I was still let down a lot and I'm trying to cover up some of the emotion with sarcastic bravado. Unfortunately sarcastic bravado doesn't translate well over text.

Sorry. Like you said, tone doe snot translate well over the internet.

I think my reaction was also a bit past nuanced but those last few weeks with DC revealing various infuriating things and us just letting all our minor rages blow out around s_d also revealed to me how many people do think that a carpet-bombing technique or mass emails are valid ways to get points across to the writers and editors and improve the comics we wish to like.

You're right :) I've kinda noticed what you are talking about as well to a degree. I don't read every S_D post so I miss some of it but a lot comes through pretty clearly.

*grumbles* DC seems to be taking the 'any press is good press' line and its infuriating! I'm getting really convinced that they DON'T care too much about anything but the opinions of their inner circle. The only thing since the relaunch that makes me think otherwise is the whole thing that happened at San Diego Comic Con where they had to listen Kyrax because she made her concerns SO obvious.

*shrugs* Some things are probably just a lost cause though, like this comic. Slade hasn't been written well since Identity Crisis. I should be used to that instead of hoping for a positive change.

The theme of the issue is that the world sees Slade as washed up, so the employer wanted a younger team before they would allow Deathstroke on board--but Wilson's gonna prove everyone wrong!

Oh, one of those stories... I suppose once you explain your convoluted plan to blacken the name of the Titans by putting together a completely unrelated team using their name (for the second time if you count the Terror Titans) and your high point was five major villains ganging up and managing to kill rookie hero the Atom, you can expect the pitying looks to begin...

*grins* For the record I'm pretty sure that whole plot of Titans got wiped out in the relaunch. Roy is too young to have ever had Lian so he and Chesh couldn't be on Slade's little Titans team and Ryan Choi is supposed to be back as the Atom so he never got axed.
