I really liked this. It was bizarre, but in a good way.

Aaron "The Mad Whitaker" Bourque; I'm ambivalent towards Diana sleeping in the nude--not even like a night-tunic or robe, fully nude--but it does fit her character.

I get the vague idea they're trying to redo the recent Hercules series only without the sense of humor that made it palatable.

Not really. This doesn't feel even like "Hercules, but with a serious tone." This is more like there's a family feud amongst the gods, and now Wonder Woman and this girl Zola are caught in the middle. But that's just this issue, more issues might alter that perception.

And got to thumb its nose Hard at WW with it's own take on Amazons Attack.

I still don't think it's aspiring to be Herc. I did see traces of that in there, but only slight ones - otherwise, this is just a more modernised take on the old Greek myths.

It's Apollo. DC put out pieces of design work with the centaur who attacks Zora and the guy who uses the women for oracles labelled as 'Apollo'. So it's definitely Apollo.

I really like the design of the gods- especially Hermes' bird feet, and Apollo's eyes.

And, oh, Chiang, how I love that you can draw a woman in ANYTHING and yet she won't look sexualized at all! Seriously, was Hera naked except for a huge peacock cloak? If anyone else drew that...but the way he draws it, not putting women in sexualized positions, and with complete respect...and I adore how he draws Wonder Woman's top as COMPLETELY COVERING HER CHEST. LIKE REAL ARMOR. Artists who show off her cleavage always bothered me.

And I am so, so excited for this storyline, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I love writers who remember that, oh yeah, Wonder Woman is about the greek gods too, and the greek gods make instantly recognizable characters and are ripe with good WW storylines in them.

After just glancing through Red Hood and the Outlaws, Wonder Woman was so refreshing. I can't wait to pick it up today or sometime this week. It'll be so worth it to have women that aren't bending over backwards to show off T&A or just drawn from angles to best give us cleavage or whatever. And outfits and art that aren't objectifying. ;u;

The guys at the LCS said I wouldn't like it, but I beg to differ. The scans have been looking awesome.

It really, really is. I've been getting such good vibes about this for the past few weeks, especially after listening to the writer talk about it. Not to mention the artist is one of my favorites, as I always know he will draw women well, which is a huge relaxer for me. I was NOT disappointed.

Superman and Batman (especiallly Batman) have all had almost indie runs on their regular titles or au titles or the like, both in art and writing, and it seems it is finally WW's turn!

It seems like it'll be a very artistic book. So EXCITED WHY CAN'T IT BE OCTOBER ALREADY

Same here~. Before, I was a little wary, but listening to them talk, I've been very eager and optimistic about the title (and not everything struck a chord with me of course, but definitely more excited than anything). Chiang is officially on my list of those of I love forever now. ♥

On top of that, the writing didn't even feel demeaning to any of the female characters (well, as far as I've seen). The guys at the LCS said I wouldn't like it and it was bad, but I really think it's going to be the highlight of the new stuff for me.

And I agree! That's another thing I'm looking forward to with it! OCTOBER NEEDS TO HAVE BEEN HERE YESTERDAY

Ya know, that was what got me... They never actually said why. But they acted like they were doing me such a huge favor and everything. And one of them even told me that the Red Hood issue was great, but when he said that, it just didn't even matter to me what their opinion on the Wondy comic was. Well, it didn't before, but that to me was a red flag.

I'm switching LCSs after this and going to get my Wondy at the new one, but if and when I go back, I'm going to ask them why they said that and what they really thought about the Wondy comic.

Yeah, it is. And usually, they would give me a pretty good reason or at least some detail! But they just said I wouldn't and nothing more. And the owner is a fan of Wondy and usually enjoys most of the stuff with her, so I don't know what it was about this that he didn't like.

But then again, I know I have some pretty distinct tastes from them at the end of the day. I grew up with manga and anime and enjoy both a lot, but as far as I know, both the guys don't enjoy either at all. And actually, one of the things that struck me about the Wondy title was it did feel kind of like a manga (but still very much so like a graphic novel/comic). Chiang's art is part of that, but even just the writing in general. And I wonder if maybe they read that in a way similar but different than me and that's what turned them off. Well, that's a guess.

But yes, I shall definitely tell you when I do! I'm more curious about it now myself. x'D
It kinda lingered in my mind before, but now it's almost nagging me, haha.

But they didn't even say anyone returned it or anything. Just that I wouldn't like it. And they don't always get my tastes down so well. I mean, Red Hood and the Outlaws was kind of pretty, but full of fail, and one of them was saying it was good and worth it. At least the Wondy title will be pretty and won't sexualize or objectify its females (and that alone is worth the money).

To be fair, I think EVERY Wonder Woman writer remembers that WW is involved with the Gods. Some just employ the gods in the poorest of ways, or not at all.

Gonna throw my praise on the growing pile (dang, how tall IS that thing?). I absolutely loved this first issue, probably my favourite of what I've read so far.

The stuff about the Gods only made sense in the vague outlines of it, of course, but I expect that at the beginning of a storyline so I can roll with it. What hit me though was Diana's voice. It's definitely her voice, you can hear that loud and clear. But it's also very much a warrior's voice, living in a land she's not native to. Which fits her backstory. And yet, even as businesslike as she is in a lot of this, there's still a slight note of humour and cameraderie there.

I hope Hermes doesn't die, that sarcastic comment of his was lovely, and I want to hear more of it.

I was really impressed by this issue. Probably my favorite aspect is the handling of Diana and how she doesn't open the book by showing off how much of a bada** she is. Heck, she doesn't come in until two story elements have already taken place! And when we are introduced to her, she's in bed sleeping.

Talk about taking full advantage of giving your story and characters a cadence and establishing your them BEFORE they're shown doing any fighting. No overdrawn inner monologues, and no "SEXY SEXY" catwoman #1 crap. This is probably my favorite DC new launch, even a tiny bit above Batwoman even though I bought only one issue of WW and six issues of BW. I like this a lot.

I like the creepy stuff with the gods, but I'm worried that the series is going to be more about Zola with Wonder Woman along for the ride. And I don't care about Zola.

I was really happy with this. And the guys at my LCS warned me it would be gory, but I knew with Azzarello things can get a little gory.

This is A-List right where Diana should be. Great story, great art and lots of people talking about Wondy.

Exactly. I loved it. And given the Medusa stuff and the Max Lord stuff, I thought it was very in-line with Wondy. I can't wait to read #2.

And I love how a) Rucka-ish this felt, while being its own thing and b) how artsy this felt.

I really loved this issue- it was sold out at my LCS (as in, not even enough to fill all the pull boxes, let alone make it onto the shelf), and I ended up buying a copy through the comixology app.

I'm a big azzarello and chiang fan, so I was looking forward to this and it didn't disappoint.

my only complaint is with that damn pointy metal choker. Chiang's wonder woman looks invulnerable, and it probably doesn't hurt *her* but when I see the more willowy WW drawn by Lee, my trachea hurts.

I am legit having difficulty processing the prospect of a wonder woman comic that is purported to be good. I'm gonna have to read it now at least to see whether there's some joke I'm not being let in on.

Chiang is a legit goodartist, shame they gave him such a shitty costume to draw.
