Well, Doom's alright with acknowledging that people are better than him at specific things. He and Dr. Strange, Dracula, Morgan le Fay, The Enchantress, and Diablo have complicated, but mostly cordial relationships, and he's spoken highly of their abilities. (He even takes teachers (such as Morgan le Fay in particular, Cagliostro for another) although notably none from his own time period).

It probably would never work, for sure, but Doom is a complicated monster. The last three people in the world he ever gave a damn about were his parents, and Valeria. His dad, Werner is why Gypsies are given sanctuary in Latveria, and he takes care of Latverians at all. His mother is why he studies magic, and Valeria is why he'll eventually always be alone.

But Wanda is uniquely positioned to appeal to Doom. Not only is she a powerful resource, but she was raised by the Maximoffs, a Romani family. How could Doom spend time with her, and not remember the songs of his childhood? His mother's magic, his father's kumpania, she's a link to the last good part of his life.
