It's the battle you've been waiting for!

It's time for Saturday silliness!

Two top ranked fliers are lining up for the ultimate duel, one of them is a popular character here, who doesn't even need to appear to be instantly recognisable...

(This expands to wallpaper size for those who wish such things, and no I don't have it as my wallpaper)

There's an advert in the middle, but I'm sure you can skip that if you like.

And for legality, one of my favourite Lil'former strips from the redoubtable Matt Moylan

Oh, and if you want to see more of this concept... and who wouldn't. Here you go

And no, still not a personal fan of MLP:FIM, but hey, I'm a giver!

I expected it to end earlier. xD Really.

That was awesome beyond imagination. But really, did anybody expect it to end any other way?

I'm fairly ambivalent towards Friendship is Magic. The reaction faces are brilliant, the animation is great, but it doesn't do a lot for me. I enjoy what the fandom churns out infinitely more.
But that first image is my new wallpaper now

The internet is conspiring to turn me into a brony. Don't laugh--you're in on it, too.

I won't laugh, it's true. We are trying to turn you into a pony fan.

The fact that you used the word Brony means it's working.

You know I'm just seeing it from this perspective. Starscream is a character made to fail. Like literally, his job on the shows is buttmonkey (except in the live-action movies where he actually becomes competent AND has badass tattoos he DID ON HIMSELF).

I mean, a villain character, a BUTTMONKEY villain character versus any protagonist is doomed to fail.

Optimus Prime or Megatron versus Rainbow Dash would be a more fair match-up imo.

(also because I don't know where else to ask, what happened to the...Rahne giving birth post?)

What I love about Starscream is how he is actually a competent buttmonkey. x'D

I don't know how bad it is Prime though. But from what I saw of the G1 stuff and from watching Animated, he does have some great competency. He's just such a cocky bastard, that pride rightfully gets in the way of his plans over half of the time.

But really, I think anyone vs Rainbow Dash is a match-up that I would watch. Pay to watch even.

Well, I can think of a couple of characters that weren't awesome actually. But yeah, anyone who was someone that got ample screentime was awesome.

I still love the clones themselves. x'D

Screwattack or My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?

Well the first is an internet computer game-orientated show that Brentalfloss is involved with sometimes, the other is a show that was made by one of the women that used to work on Powderpuff Girls and the like, who decided to make a show that girls would like that didn't have the bland characters and situations that normally make up the majority of girl's entertainment.

So she did, and IT IS AWESOME. The fact that it was made without the steretypical cliches of a show aimed at girls has lead to the new show getting a lot of male fans, who seem to be eager to justify why they like the show beyond the fact that it is simply very, very good and well made.

And it's also as addictive as crystal meth, which helps.

You know, I feel a little bad for not liking this show. I loved Princess Tutu a.k.a. Guitar Ninjas. Is it missing classical music?

Y'know, as much as the meme pics amuse me... I tried watching the pilot the other day on YouTube and... it really just didn't sell me.

Of MLP:FiM? I highly suggest that if you do enjoy the memes that you give a non-pilot episode a chance. The first two-parter isn't really representative of the rest of the show, and from what I've seen, I'm not the only fan who doesn't really care for it.

I thought the first episode was a dandy intro to the setting and characters, especially Twilight Sparkle's "I'm on a mission dammit, stop having fun" aspect. But as an adventure story it really needed to be a three-parter or more. The ending was clearly rushed.

It also doesn't fit well with the "slice of life" sort of stories the network insisted upon, which is what we got after that.

I watch it sometimes with a small female relative, and the thing I appreciate is how, relative to other kid's shows, the 'morals' to the story are very sophisticated and actually involve things like tact, compromise, and empathy for each others foibles.

Also it sometime makes a deliberate attempt to subvert and undermine some of the more tritely preachy (but unrealistic) messages kids get elsewhere. I particularly enjoyed the ep. where the take home message was that no, something designed by a team where everyone's tastes are given equal weight is NOT usually superior to something created by a brilliant auteur, so sometime you just need to STFU and let your friend's talents shine. To have that message delivered to *little girls* - who more than anyone else are encouraged to be 'nice' and passive and self-effacing - is pretty cool IMO.

The pilot is really quite sugary in comparison.

Sorry, but I just gotta put this out here - Rainbow Dash is the best pony, and anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong and stupid.

I think that all of them have good and (deliberately) bad parts of their personality, with none of the main characters being that accidentally unlikable. Which is strange, because even in shows like Avatar Katara would occasionally be irritating and detract from the plot.

All that said, my favourite ponies are (in order) Fluttershy, Twilight, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rarity and Apple Jack. Which isn't to say that I don't like the characters lower on the list, I just like the ones further up more.

Because Fluttershy is the bestest pony.

I thought that they were meant to be annoying on purpose? Though I kind of didn't count them as they weren't really part of the main cast, any more than the zebra character was.

I have a feeling their presence was one of the things that the network forced upon the show, like how they weren't allowed to have that many adventure episodes as they aren't "girly".

CMC

[personal profile] nefrekeptah 2011-09-25 20:24 (UTC)(link)
Hey, I like the CMC crusaders-centric episodes. it's three friends going on wacky adventures while finding out who they are. What's not to love?
