I'm pretty sure he would respond that way, but I don't think he's actually a homophobe, just an inarticulate old guy. Overdefensiveness, definitely - terms like "fag," never.

Actually, he didn't respond TOO badly that time Spider-Man kissed him. He was pissed, but no more pissed than he was every other time Spidey's pulled a prank.
