A grizzly series of murders have occurred and all the women who have been killed were previously rescued by the Black Panther. Someone has a personal grudge at it is closer to home.

Hunter is tchallas adopted brother who I think was introduced in Christopher priests run. I am glad he is being brought back he is awesome. Anyway he targets women to lure out his brother.

That is a pretty awesome back story, and I dig the cain and abel vibe. I wonder if Shuri has ever met him, the age difference seems pretty big and he was exiled a long time ago.

Photobucket

This is a good page of him out of costume, and I know what your thinking... BLACK Panther's brother WHITE wolf has a fine set of facial hair. The girl on the ground, sofia(a young former serbian rebel/waitress) is a lot like BPs sidekick in this series and she has been awesome in this issue.(I might need to do a whole post about her). I wish I could post more of Hunter and tchalla fighting but page count. Here is the emotional brother moment.

Photobucket

Its ok tchalla we all have a brother who kills innocent people to get back at us.

Jefte Paolo's art is awesome.

See, I'm not really feeling that. It doesn't seem like a race thing to me at all (from these pages), and its almost barely mentioned. It seems more to me like a Loki thing, where he feels like he's an putcast because of it. Even if he isn't.

Maaybe if hunter was a more well known charachter. I think this might be the first time he was used by someone other then priest. I would have prefered a arc about him, but I am just glad he is still relevant in Panters book.

After looking at the scans, the first thing that popped into my head was Black Vulcan on Harvey Birdman.

Black Vulcan: And you think I named myself Black Vulcan? Hell no! I used to go by Supervolt. Black Vulcan was Aquaman's idea. And I said, "Well maybe we should just call you White Fish!".

I am not so keen on this idea. The whole Cain and Abel thing seems nice before, be here it seems so... Lion King. I was kinda hoping to see more of White Wolf , but not like this. He's a white kid, who was adopted and raised by a king an African super country. That's kinda interesting. Hunter's an outsider on SO many levels, so I wanted to see more how that would work out. I would try to describe his relationship with Wakanda and the Royal Family more, but I doubt I could word it just right without hitting some touchy issues, But... HE IS A WOLF RAISED BY PANTHERS!!! I kinda want to see Storm trying to bridge the gap between Tchalla and his brother.

But here... he seems like a poser "evil-counterpart" villain, like pre-Crisis Catman to Batman for Black Panther, when I see him like Shadow to Sonic, or Vegeta to GOku, or Mr Majestic to Superman. And is he really such a scuzbag compared to the lies that Osborn or Gen Lane gave out? This seems, pardon the pun as it wasn't intended, but black and white.

Plus, I feel like this needs to be noted, I haven't read any of the issues with White Wolf, I'm just going from what I read about him on all those wiki/fan-edit sites. So sorry if I SAID that was stupid... better to look like an idiot than a snobby dumbass

I kind of dislike the whole he's doing it because he couldn't be king, he's doing it because he's a thug thing. How about he's doing it because he legit believes it's for Wakanda's own good and he wants to prove he cares about that.

I always liked how Christopher Priest, Hunter's creator described him: All T'Challa has to do to stop him from pulling his latest scheme is to go up to him and say, "Hunter, stop." Above all else, the man is absolutely loyal to the Wakandan throne.

Probably not natively. The common Grey Wolf used to inhabit the northern cost of Africa, and there's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethiopian_Wolf, so it's plausible that they've known of wolves for a very long time. So they name a foreign dude after a foreign animal.

I like T'Challa's outfit here. I like how the black is so overhwelming, it really plays to the actual character, makes him seem more otherwordly like they've always tried to make the mantle. Then there's the combat gear, almost none of which is necessary.

If the line work were kept a bit more simple, that could be a magnificent costume. Get Darwyn Cooke to draw it.
Slightly weirded out by that skeevy grin he has in page three. He looks like a ventriloquist dummy in an expensive suit.

Priest's Hunter was much less simplistic. He was loyal to Wakanda in his own way, and only played the villain in support of the nation.

And he also had ears on his cowl that weren't the size of carrots. :)

Am I to infer from this that Black Panther is still the Mary Sue of the Marvel universe? It's too bad if that's so, because I think that despite what he says in the last scan, it might be interesting to explore what an absolute monarch from a hereditary dynasty has done in the past to ensure that dynasty continuing. After all, he seems perfectly fine with the existence of a secret police and, in the real world, I'm not sure how many people in positions similar to his have had clean hands, though I suspect you could count them on the fingers of one of those hands and still have a few left over. I see him more as Doctor Doom with a conscience than as Captain America without a shield.

But I guess they're going in a different direction.

Mary Sue? How so?

Also, that should probably have been made clear in the pages: as soon as T'Challa became king, he disbanded the Hatut Zeraze and threw Hunter out.

While I'm glad to see Hunter back, it's a little too simplistic a portrayal here. He shouldn't be going after Panther for revenge or to usurp the throne, but to get Panther's ass back in Wakanda (although I can understand his being pissed over the vibranium).

Also, ugh on the art.
