A grizzly series of murders have occurred and all the women who have been killed were previously rescued by the Black Panther. Someone has a personal grudge at it is closer to home.

Hunter is tchallas adopted brother who I think was introduced in Christopher priests run. I am glad he is being brought back he is awesome. Anyway he targets women to lure out his brother.

That is a pretty awesome back story, and I dig the cain and abel vibe. I wonder if Shuri has ever met him, the age difference seems pretty big and he was exiled a long time ago.

This is a good page of him out of costume, and I know what your thinking... BLACK Panther's brother WHITE wolf has a fine set of facial hair. The girl on the ground, sofia(a young former serbian rebel/waitress) is a lot like BPs sidekick in this series and she has been awesome in this issue.(I might need to do a whole post about her). I wish I could post more of Hunter and tchalla fighting but page count. Here is the emotional brother moment.

Its ok tchalla we all have a brother who kills innocent people to get back at us.

Jefte Paolo's art is awesome.

Am I to infer from this that Black Panther is still the Mary Sue of the Marvel universe? It's too bad if that's so, because I think that despite what he says in the last scan, it might be interesting to explore what an absolute monarch from a hereditary dynasty has done in the past to ensure that dynasty continuing. After all, he seems perfectly fine with the existence of a secret police and, in the real world, I'm not sure how many people in positions similar to his have had clean hands, though I suspect you could count them on the fingers of one of those hands and still have a few left over. I see him more as Doctor Doom with a conscience than as Captain America without a shield.

But I guess they're going in a different direction.

Mary Sue? How so?

Also, that should probably have been made clear in the pages: as soon as T'Challa became king, he disbanded the Hatut Zeraze and threw Hunter out.

"Mary Sue? How so?"

It seems like he IS being presented as Captain American without a shield here, a moral force making speeches about right and wrong, and it seems heavy-handed. I don't know if it's more heavy-handed than Cap or if it just comes across that way because T'Challa is a character that never really interested me and because something about the way he speaks seems off. It's too formal and while I understand that they're going for regal, it just sounds stilted to me.

"Also, that should probably have been made clear in the pages: as soon as T'Challa became king, he disbanded the Hatut Zeraze and threw Hunter out."

Then his father, who fought alongside Captain America in World War 2 at least turned a blind eye to the secret police? Or it was an independent agency put in place generations ago and was operating with the king's knowledge? It'd still make an interesting story; On the one hand, there's T'Challa honestly wanting to do good with his power, on the other hand, there's a less-than-clean backstory about how that power came to be. The more I talk about this, the more I think it's been done before, though.

That's not the definition of a Mary Sue though.

And yes, T'Chaka was more pragmatic in that sense than his son. I'm also pretty sure he created the Hatut Zeraze, but I'd have to check my Priest issues to be sure.

Just quickly looked into it: T'Chaka did start the Hatut Zeraze, but wasn't aware of all of their actions (according to T'Challa anyway). When T'Challa did become aware of them, he dismissed them.

I think a recent mini retconned the WW2 Black Panther to T'Challa's grandfather.

That had to happen eventually, didn't it? You can have a sliding time scale or you can have a continuity that's tied to the real world, but if you have both, there's going to be problems.
