He's still in one of the top three positions in the company, and has a lot of pull and say in what goes on, hence his redesigning all the costumes as 90's nightmares.

So he probably did vouch for one of his own characters over one of the Milestone ones. That's not to say I agree with edh's apparent notion that they should've chosen someone other than Voodoo, merely that this is a poor portrayal so far.
