...An Asian sidekick who isn't Cass. Or at least she probably isn't. Behold!

From Comics Alliance,
Though Batman: The Brave and The Bold is drawing to a close this year on Cartoon Network, Batfans won't be without an animated incarnation of the Caped Crusader for long. The CG animated Beware the Batman is coming in 2013, as revealed by Warner Bros. Animation executive vice president for creative affairs Sam Register this past weekend at the MIP Junior conference in Cannes, France. This version of Batman is pictured facing villains like Professor Pyg and Mister Toad with the help of a tough-looking Alfred and new partner Katana (who is apparently not necessarily a full-fledged Robin replacement). Glen Murakami (Ben 10, Teen Titans) has been named as the show's executive-producer. Like Green Lantern: The Animated Series set to debut in early 2012, Beware the Batman seems to adapt Bruce Timm's signature style in CG.
Along with Beware The Batman, Cartoon Network viewers can expect to see an assortment of other DC Comics content soon including Batman claymation shorts from Aardman Animation (Wallace and Gromit), Plastic Man shorts, Doom Patrol shorts, and Super Best Friends Forever, a series of Batgirl/Supergirl/Wonder Woman shorts by the creator of The Hub's My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic animated series. Register also briefly mentioned that Warner Bros. was working on a project with Conan O'Brien's production company, which could mean more Flaming C."

HOLY CRAP! LAUREN FAUST IS GONNA BE DOING A BATGIRL/WONDER WOMAN/SUPERGIRL SERIES OF SHORTS! :DDD Still, the potential for a Batman show with (maybe) Cass is kind of awesome, Glen Murakami does good work and a potential Aardman/Faust team up kind of rocks hard.
Video here, kinda long though,

Date: 2011-10-05 12:42 am (UTC)First, I'm really not a fan of the really angular style. Batman's face in particular reminds me of some sort of Bat-mite type caricature or something.
Secondly, is Alfred fighting alongside Batman, wielding two pistols? Not only is that an incongruous take on the character, does Batman really have no qualms about fighting alongside a guy using guns - you know, the things he tends to detest in pretty much all interpretations of the character?
I'm honestly much more interested in what Lauren Faust's going to do with her side of the next-gen DC animation.

Date: 2011-10-05 12:44 am (UTC)If this is an alternate continuity (bad ass Alfred!) anyway, she might as well be Cass. Sheesh DC. Good move putting Katana in as a main lead, but my god way to push the sore Cass button where it hurts. Like want, but not want? I dunno.
I still think a Powerpuff Girls/Josie & The Pussicats/Charlie's Angels/Sailor Moonesque hybrid Batgirl show with all the "Batgirls" as the same age as a team would be insanely popular.

Date: 2011-10-05 02:48 am (UTC)Unlike their print brethren, DCAU hasn't let me down in… has it really been several decades? Wow. Well, anyway, I'm on-board for whatever animated Bat-show they want to make.

Date: 2011-10-05 09:24 pm (UTC)I guess that having her be Batgirl would be confusing (she's a redhead now, donchaknow) and Black Bat outside of Batman Incorperated would be kind of awkward to explain.
I choose to believe that this is Cass until they specifically say that she's Tatsu. I mean, giving Batman a female teenaged East Asian sidekick making her Katana instead of Cass seems like they're deliberately trying to avoid using her.
I mean, they could use a former Batgirl who is Bruce's adopted daughter in the comics, or someone he's occasionally teamed up with in a C-list comicbook. Going with the latter would be kind of weird, especially as her backstory heavily involves the supernatural.
