Information about Starfire-gate

So a blogger had a conversation with Scott Lobdell a while back and they discussed Starfire-gate.

"Kory was definitely being evasive/sarcastic because she did NOT want to talk about her past with them and issues that will come up later in the series. She does not have a memory of ‘a goldfish’ as some people have been saying ‘round the ‘net.

Also, Jason was lying to Roy about certain implications he made in the first issue to Roy about Kory. I won’t say what exactly because I don’t want to spoil the next issue, especially since it’s not out yet."

so it appears that some of our guesses were correct, Kory was being purposfully missleading, and Jason had been lying. Her memory issues are not issues at all, she does NOT want to talk about her past for some reason.

the post goes onto say that Lobdell seemed visibly upset about some of the posting coments people have been leaving on message boards (not the interviews or reviews themselves, but the comments people have left... and i think we can safely assume that the comments were the "starfire is a slut" and the like comments.

I know i a have been one to defend Lobdell during Starfire-gate, and it is because I KNOW he is a great writer, and a great writer of women. which is why the impressions we got from RHATO troubled me. Also as a dabbler in writing i know about playing "the long grift" card and the dangers there in.

hopfully this will comfort some of us who have been... worrying about this
title. The fact that Lobdell actually seems to care about this also helps...

Which I found a rather slippery way of essentially slut-shaming whilst dodging the label, at least in some cases.

Which is not to say that I was happy with the way Kory was treated *at all.* I just don't personally have a problem with her having sex with both men.

Very true, and I'm not thrilled with the term slut-slamming at all. Regardless, nUStarfire's offer to Roy (Jason only said he had slept with her, we have no idea if he was just saying it for whatever reason - there might be backstory there) is no big deal to me. I spent too many years on a college campus as a residential Grad Fellow in my College House not to notice the 'I'm bored let's play' activity - and certainly not just after parties.

It is a behavioral change for the character that may be environmental or reactionary (as I think is the plot) in that regard.

I have much more problem with her lack of compassion and joy, the fact that she seemed interested in being a team player by helping Jason and then that faded away. Of course seeing Roy and facing her past may have been something she wasn't planning on doing at that point.

The book wasn't a self-contained story, and honestly it failed the 'New 52' lets get the new readers the background they need to get hooked smell test. It's the start of a story arc with some red herrings. Hopefully it's clever.

Not to say I'm happy. I love Kory. Dick and Kory are my OTP. But I didn't like her written as weak emotionally in the past, pining for Dick (not that I could blame her), and I thought she was gaining momentum in REBELS again as a strong character with the exception of the last few issues when her relationship with Adam was awkward.

But this issue repulsed me initially but on further reflection, I need to see where it's going.
