O.M.A.C. 2: Odd Meals Assure Confrontation

Four pages from O.M.A.C. 2...

Last issue, after OMAC completed his first mission (hacking into Cadmus), Brother Eye deposited him in the middle of nowhere. In his civilian identity of Kevin Kho, he's managed to trudge his way to the nearest town.





It turns out one of the diner staff is a wanted man in hiding, and a superpowered one at that. He gained powers from experiments performed on him by Cadmus/Checkmate (the former is part of the latter), and now he's on the run from them. When an anonymous source tips the local law to his presence, he makes a dash for freedom.



The guy has the same powers as the other versions of Amazing Man, so think Marvel's Absorbing Man.

I-35 goes to Metropolis? 'Cuz Detroit/Cleveland/Chicago are all waaaay further East than it reaches.

Also, "Omactivate!" Oh, so deliciously Kirby cracktacular.

Yeah, "Omactivate!" did sort of leap out at me as a cute bit of phrasing too! :)

Well, it could be the I-35 is the way north to the interstate that does go to Metropolis. But I don't really think there are that many signs in Texas, even on interstates, that tell you it's the path to any city not in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas, or Louisiana. Maybe cities in Kansas or Mississippi might be included as you get closer to the borders but certainly not something in New York or New Jersey.

It just throws me because the sign beside it is correct, as I-35 to I-20 would get you to Shreveport, so why couldn't they just say "I-35 to I-70" to get you in the general direction?

Looking at Metropolis' wikipedia entry, those above cities (along with Toronto and Vancouver) were mentioned as the primary influence for it, so I'd figure it as more in the midwest/Great Lakes area, whereas Gotham being blatantly acknowledged as New York City (with a bit of Pittsburgh, and Chicago, Detroit) is far more East Coast.

It's just odd because the cities in the DCU are much less vaguely placed than TV's Springfield, USA.

What's the separation of duty on this book?

Written by DiDio and drawn by Giffen? Or written by both DiDio and Giffen with art by Giffen? Or written and drawn by both Didio and Giffen?

It'd be hilarious if it was the third scenario, but it's actually the second.

I did not pick this up yesterday because I wasn't sure I wanted another book - getting all the Bat and Super family books is pushing the limit of my budget for funny books. I may have to reconsider. Issue 1 didn't knock me on my ass with awesome, nor does this, but at least it appears to be holding a consistent level of fun.
