Preview of James Robinson's new miniseries starring... The Shade, is up at Newsarama

Oh Mr Swift, how I've missed your own special brand of sarcasm...

Oh, and following on from discussion earlier in the week about Nightwing as a character in "Arkham City", here is the first clip of gameplay of Robin from the game, also from Newsarama

Violent little fellow, isn't he? (Though I like the Animated Series skin)

I... don't... want? Who speaks like that? It's so flowery I feel like I'm developing a pollen allergy.

Richard Swift has been honing his sarcastic wit for over 170 years, and in terms of bon mots and elaborate language, he leaves Oscar Wilde looking like a bashful five year old.

Personally I LOVE a verbose character.

It can get annoying if everyone speaks like that, but as an individual verbal style it's pretty fun.

He hung out with Oscar Wilde and Charles Dickens when he was younger, I guess that he just kind of picked stuff up.

And he now looks like Gavin Rossdale. -blinkblink- Okay, admittedly I've got Bush on the brain, but STILL.

I always did hear Shade as Clive Owen's voice, however. Either way, YEAH OPAL! YEAH SHADE! YEAH Jack? Maybe?

Jack lives in Robinson's head alone. I'd be willing to wager we'll see him before the mini is done.

Character-wise, he's in San Francisco, correct?

Yup. Which in retrospect probably was a bad choice to move to, what with the Titans living in the bay and all.

He doesn't have his staff any more, he gave that to Courtney, he's as retired as he's going to get, and the Titans being around probably helps since any supervillains around can be handled by them.

Why doesn't he have a monocle!? For God's sake DC, give him a monocle!
And a tophat!
And a blazer!

I have to assume you're new to The Shade. He doesn't wear monocles, he wears dark glasses, jet black glasses, and he would never dream of appearring formally without his top hat.

And his style of jackets extends a little beyond a blazer

Though I like the Animated Series skin

Same but I do have an issue with that..because that Animated Series skin is the Dick Grayson model, not the Tim Drake..it'd make more sense if that skin was available as an alternate for Nightwing.

I kind of want to defend Hans Christian Anderson. The guy had a great sense of humour, although it tends to get lost in a lot of those awful, syrupy old-fashioned translations.

But then I remember how Dickens put a sign up on his guest room wall saying "Hans Christian Andersen slept in this room for five weeks which seemed to the family AGES"... So maybe he wouldn't have been a great dinner companion.

You better lay off Bergman though, 'Dickie.'
