Amazing Spiderman #671 preview

ComicBookResources finally has the fight we've been waiting for. Mary "Tiger balm" Jane with spider powers vs. Carlie "Housewrecker" Cooper man-spider.

Or something like it.

As soon as I saw Carlie shed her "ooh, a dork-able beard of Peter-I-SOLD-MY-MARRAIGE-TO-THE-DEVIL-Parker" and show her true face, every time I see Mary Jane punch, kick, or take a piece of New York city and SWAT a spider I know she's hitting Carlie. Because my mind refuses to accept anything less.

You be the judge.

So, you were waiting for pages of Mary Jane stepping up and showing why she was the girl MEANT for Peter Parker, here she is.

Take THAT, Carlie!

Ramos, you HAVE to improve your art. Action looks good, but dang, those faces.i've seen more emotion on a Barbie doll.

That last panel... her face and pose are somehow awesome, hilarious, and horrifying all at the same time.

Seemed like the best use for it...

In the first panel, I couldn't even tell she was wearing a skirt.

[personal profile] jaysonbyron 2011-10-07 23:55 (UTC)(link)
I thought she was a giant for some reason.

I don't even want to tell you what I thought the first panel looked like.

She cracked her neck so suddenly, her eyes went all crooked. God but they're creepy.

Then again, Ramos has a habit of giving people crooked eyes, and not bothering with enough head to put a brain in (which may be a subtle comment on character actions in the post-OMD era).

You summed it up perfectly.

man, i hate the term homewrecker so much, and like, is it even applicable in this case?

mj looks fierce, tho.

"I'm going to make orphans of his children."

"You realize he's married, right?"

"Yes, but I would imagine that she would die of grief."

I have to admit, it's really cool seeing MJ kick some ass. There's rumors of her being the new Scarlet Spider, and after seeing this...I kinda want it to be true. :O

[personal profile] shadowpsykie 2011-10-07 19:52 (UTC)(link)
I want this sooooo to be true, there is no other explanation for her getting powers and not going all man-sider on them. I will accept no other person

[personal profile] darkknightjrk 2011-10-07 20:08 (UTC)(link)
Well, we did see with a lot of people that they would have the power for a day or so before becoming spiders. However, it seems like it took longer for MJ, so either she's a ticking time-bomb, or she's something different from the others.

I'm hoping she is something different

Gah. This art. What is even going on in that first panel? I thought at first MJ was bursting out of a carapace but her body was still spider-shaped or something.

So what's the consensus? Is this Marvel giving fans what they want or...?
drmcninja: (Default)

[personal profile] drmcninja 2011-10-07 19:41 (UTC)(link)
It took me a full minute to realize she wasn't just naked from the waist down and there was just another spider behind her. That isn't good.

I've been staring at it for at least that long and I STILL say she's not wearing anythig below her chest and has really let the break-up go to her ass.

I swear, until I read the explanations down here, I thought her lower half had mutated into a giant fist.

The only good thing I say for this art?: makes sense for MJ to be wearing the really open skirt, and Humberto doesn't go for the cheap tease (by these images).

Everything still looks like crap.
schrodingers_fangirl: (Bones smile)

[personal profile] schrodingers_fangirl 2011-10-07 19:53 (UTC)(link)
Gah! The art in the first panel! I can't tell what's going on below the waist!

But MJ kicking ass like this? Go, MJ, go! Totally awesome.

(LOL at Carlie "Homewrecker" Cooper.)

I for some reason expect tp see her get punished or yelled later by Peter at for punching around the giant spiders that used to be people.

[personal profile] mrstatham 2011-10-07 20:50 (UTC)(link)
Jesus. As much as I love the idea of a sexy, hip, barefoot babe like MJ flying around New York with her own spider-powers and making Carlie look bad, Ramos makes me feel so bad.
bjornwilde: (Default)

[personal profile] bjornwilde 2011-10-07 21:19 (UTC)(link)
Okay can we have MJ take over the Spider-man title (like how Herc did Hulk) for a bit? Give her some time as a super hero then in a few months bring Peter back?
liliaeth: (Default)

[personal profile] liliaeth 2011-10-12 13:00 (UTC)(link)
Do we have to bring the imposter pretending to be Peter back?

I'd rather get the real Peter back.

I like Ramos' style most of the time, but this is not his best work.

Also, WOO! MJ!

Oh great, Liefeld possessed the body of the artist again, didn't he?

[personal profile] nezchan 2011-10-08 02:12 (UTC)(link)
Come to think of it, she DOES have a mutant foot at the bottom of the first scan, doesn't she?
mrstatham: (Default)

[personal profile] mrstatham 2011-10-08 12:56 (UTC)(link)
Nah, nah, she's got facial expressions beyond constipated gurning and yelling, actually has feet consistently, and whilst the style is a bit divisive, there's at least a good, cartoony energy to it. Liefeld can't do any of those things consistently, especially giving his art any sense of energy or movement.
silverzeo: (Default)

[personal profile] silverzeo 2011-10-07 23:40 (UTC)(link)
.... Okay Marvel... you tried to make MJ the fall girl for OMD in OMIT... now you made her the new Spider-Woman... but if she is going to be the benafactor of this arc... I will HATE!!
starwolf_oakley: (Default)

[personal profile] starwolf_oakley 2011-10-08 01:43 (UTC)(link)
Maybe I'm overthinking this, but I find it annoying that Mary Jane somehow never understood "Great power, great responsibility" before now. But it is better than MJ thinking "Peter has a suicidal guilt complex" as she did in "THE OTHER: EVOLVE OR DIE." That wasn't very good.
funbox: Funbox! (Default)

I myself like to believe that a conviction of that type and strength can only be realised in life-threatning practice, the way you don't question a soldier or police-men's view on their (if reasonible and sound) moral code. They just carry the the hollowing experince that lets you know that they've experinced when that code faltered and carry around that consequence for the rest of their days.

I'm not really liking the art (the faces! OMG), but I'm just going to let it slide for now, because this scene is generally pretty awesome. Super-MJ to the rescue!!! :D

Wait, is MJ one of those backward-head zombies from Swamp Thing?

Huh. Never thought I'd see the Floating Head Doctor gag from Scrubs used again.

I should also add:

If it wasn't for Ramos' horrendous art, I honestly would have been interested in getting this story.

[personal profile] wtfomfg2 2011-10-08 06:54 (UTC)(link)
Organic web-shooters? Didn't someone on here come up with a theory that involved MJ accidentally ending up with some of Peter's pre-BND powers?

Neat. Takes me back to the Exiles' MJ who was an alt-universe Spider-Woman.
