I love Gail but from a writing standpoint, she's taking the deaging and thus experience and professionalism of Babs and her competency in terms of behavior and isms down just a bit too much. Babs is a 7ish + year veteran to the superheroing in one form or another, she can be rusty, but she's still super smart and not...this green....

Also, this might be the letterer's fault if they made it more obvious she's saying it in a flat " I don't care" tone, which I suspect may have been the intention, but yeah this is nearing Stephanie status, though Stephanie would add one last quip after the second " Yes Ma'am"....one last jab, or thought.

I still don't like the colorist on this book either, They need to learn overall color balance, the blue lighting and bloom is great, but they forget to apply it to go over the figures too more as well, that they being in that environment, would also be, bluer and cool atmosphere too. As it is they stand out a bit too much for me and don't feel all congealed and aren't flattering the inking.

	No, I don't think even Steph would be vocally snippy to this degree with a civvie. She might run it in her internal monologue - "And what about my ribs, jerk?" to herself. Wow, sorry for having a differing opinion.

But I'd have the lines she uses anyway, just as part of her internal monologue. Like I said, Steph could be that snippy, but not to a civilian. To me, Babs should just make the remarks in her head, and move on, not pretty much mock someone whose property she's damaged and whose livelihood she might affect.

	That depends on your perspective. I think ignoring the woman would've been more polite than what Babs says, personally. In a world where DC actually knew what the status of their new universe is, she'd thrust a Batman Inc card at her, mutter "Bill me," and move on. But aside from the crack about her ribs, what she says is an apology. By implication a half-hearted and not-entirely-sincere one, perhaps, but an apology still (and considering the cabbie herself is being quite impolite and unreasonable, I can't entirely fault Babs for a lack of enthusiasm and sincerity in her apology in this case). I'm not really sure how a smug quip about billing Batman Inc. about it would really be that much of an improvement.

To be honest, having finally read the issue and this scene in context, I took from it more that outside from the crack about her ribs, Barbara actually isn't engaging with the cabbie, at least not outside of a distracted "oh-this-woman's-shouting-at-me-better-respond" fashion; she's more concerned with looking for the murderous supervillain that she's hunting and is only responding to the cabbie in a rather disengaged 'uh-huh' fashion rather than actually being sniping or giving her attitude. So while it might as apologies go still not be a very sincere or enthusiastic one, it's not meant with any attitude behind it.

But in any case, the cabbie's inches away from her yelling and shouting at her, and is only not literally in Barbara's face because Barbara's turned away from her; there's not engaging with someone and not rising to the bait and then there's just letting them trample all over you and treat you like dirt. Why should Barbara have to put up with the way the cabbie's acting without comment? She might be a superhero, but that doesn't mean she has the infinite patience and reserve of a saint, or should have to just let people treat her like that without any kind of comment back; she's a superhero, not a doormat. The cabbie's being the more unreasonable one here, not Barbara.

I felt the same way reading through this. As I read it, I thought... damn, this sounds a LOT like a Batgirl we just had -- the much younger Stephanie.

And that was one of the things about the early part of Steph's Batgirl run, that she did remind Barbara of herself in some ways. I liked that, because you at least had someone they accused of being green and not so good at the crimefighting stuff backed up by Babs, and Steph eventually proved herself to her, that she wasn't green, and yet they still maintained a cool dynamic.

I think part of my problem with this new run is that Babs is being presented as being so rusty and green that I don't see how the others would allow her to operate in Gotham, because she runs the risk of hurting herself and others when it comes to a sudden bout of ineptitude. That was, of course, Dick's rather sensible argument against Steph being Batgirl, but Steph at least had Babs as a handler and someone willing to stick up for her, and Bruce was gone at the time.

Here, I know we're getting Nightwing in the next issue - presumably so he can get comically owned by Babs - but I'm surprised the bug man himself hasn't stepped in and suggested she run a few rounds in whatever training program the Batcave has these days.
