First off, from the Batman Panel, it seems that Cass Cain'll be back in Batman Incorporated, though whether it's in Leviathan Strikes or in the reboot (apparently taking place September next year) they don't really say. I'm just hoping that she's not killed off in Batman Inc. to show a bad guy means business, like how that Russian member of the Corporation was killed in Batman and Robin recently.

Secondly, this new Vertigo series by Paul Cornell, Saucer Country, sounds like it'd be interesting. It's about a governor of New Mexico who is abducted by aliens just prior to her announcement that she'll be running for president... or so she thinks. Cornell said that it's kind of like "X-Files meets the West Wing", and I've liked everything he's done so far, so it'll probably be worth a look.

Here's one of the covers,

http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2011/10/nycc-cornell-kelly-to-visitsaucer-country/

From the DC Animated Panel,
"As the panel transitioned away from "Batman: Year One," Miereanu had one last surprise for the audience. "We don't have Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman here; he is the voice in 'Batman: Arkham City' and the voice in 'Justice League: Doom!'" the moderator told the assembled fans. "What the people over there don't realize is, he's sitting with them!" Conroy stood up from his seat in the audience and walked to the stage to a standing ovation from the crowd, a round of applause which grew to a roar as Conroy proclaimed, in his iconic Batman voice, "I am vengeance! I am the night! I am Batman!"

Inspired by the "JLA: Tower of Babel" storyline by Mark Waid and Bryan Hitch, the animated "Justice League: Doom" is directed by Lauren Montgomery and features the late Dwayne McDuffie's final script. Longtime fans of the DC Animated Universe will no doubt recognize a number of voice actors reprising their roles from "Justice League." Alongside Conroy as Batman is Tim Daly as Superman, Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman, Carl Lumby as J'onn J'onzz, Michael Rosenbaum as Flash (albiet, the Barry Allen version) and Alexis Denisof as Mirror Master. But the audience went crazy when they heard Nathan Fillion would be playing Green Lantern."

And in the JLA Panel, it seems that Geoff Johns and Gary Frank are going to be writing a Captain Marvel back-up called 'the Curse of Shazam!'. I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand I think that he did write a nice slant on Captain Marvel storylines through Billy's relationship with Stargirl, for example, but in his later stuff he seemed to have a fixation with making Mary evil. Even after she'd been fixed in Final Crisis.

Ah, we'll just have to see where it goes. Though if they have Shazam giving the powers to a younger group of kids... that would REALLY make his relationship with the people he mentors kind of skeevy.

You know, now that I think about it, you would think in some of those Marvel/DC cross-overs they would have had Doom try--and probably succeed--to take over the Legion of Doom.

I really, really doubt DC would even try killing Cass after the shitstorm they got for making her evil. Fortunately for some of us, it's equally unlikely they'll do anything to Steph either.

*sigh* I know. But I have a feeling that in the very least Steph'll be around somewhere as the Spoiler, if nothing else. Currently writing a strip about it.

I would almost agree with you if DC wasn't already notorious for shooting themselves in the foot. Nevertheless, I do hope they're smart enough not to kill her at least. :/

Yeah--I know it's a popular opinion that DC is filled with nothing but talentless, mentally disabled bullying hacks, but I severely doubt that they're THAT stupid.

September next year?

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. NEVER HAPPENING. That's just-- yeah, way too far off in the future to be anything close to believable for me. With the stunt they've just pulled, they're trying to get readers interested for things that may not come out before one whole year? Especially anything involving Cass. At best we're gonna get, what, a two-panels cameos and a pat on the head telling us that she's alive?

NOPE DC STILL NO COOKIE.

Fuck this canon.

I don't think it's going to be that far away. I'm thinking it's some awkward re-wording of what was said in the CBR article:

“I expected it to be weirder,” laughed Burnham. Saying that “Batman Inc.” will be wrapping up the storyline begun before the September relaunch.

Burnham has said that he was pretty close to done with his art, and the one-shot/prelude that used to be Inc #9/10, Leviathan Strikes, is coming out in December. I'm thinking late-winter/early-spring is when it's coming out.

Saucer Country does sound pretty damn good. :D

"but in his later stuff he seemed to have a fixation with making Mary evil. Even after she'd been fixed in Final Crisis."

I don't have any semi-legit evidence on me, but I actually recall reading somewhere else where I heard the news that apparently Johns was originally doing that story to bring back the original status quo of the Marvel family--Billy as the main Captain Marvel, Mary without the evil influence, etc--but I think it was Didio who thought there was still more story that could be told with that.

My guess is that it's probably going to be more in tone with what Johns did in Flashpoint with Captain Thunder.

Between this and Emerald Knights, I'm pleased that more people can see that Fillion can play Hal Jordan in his sleep.

YES.

Certain comedians and fans recall listening to a certain stand-up's album over and over again. For me, it was No Cure For Cancer.

And damned if that song doesn't seem to capture Guy Gardner (the surface Guy) perfectly. Seriously, Leary nails it.

I think Johns should be given a wait and see on his take on Captain Marvel.

One one hand he's been responsible for some of the goriest and darkest stuff that DC has been put out in recent years (what happened to Pantha and Baby Wildebeast, what was done to Garth/Tempest and Damage), on the other hand he created Stargirl who remains one of most unabashedly bright and optimistic new super-heroes.

And yes he seems to be obsessed with Black Adam and everything connected to it (and is primarily responsible for pushing BA over the years) over Billy/Cap (the real star of the franchise) and he did the Black Mary Marvel storyline in JSA (AGAIN!) after Morrison had seemingly put an end her torture in Final Crisis but according to Jerry Ordway (who co-wrote that arc with Johns and was THE most prominent critic of DC among comics professionals about what was being done to Mary's image during Countdown) a lot of that JSA story was Editorially mandated (read: Dan Didio) to the point where they were doing re-writes and re-working the art up to the publishing deadline. Maybe Johns (who works with Diane Nelson and the WB people first hand) has the clout now where even Dan Didio can't tell him what to do.

As for Cass - at one time I would have said that DC wouldn't have the stomach to bring her back only to kill her off, not after the backlash with Beechan's stuff and the constant Cass questions they recieved at cons when they "benched" her for Stephanie. But now? I don't know. This reboot has shown the company to be alternately tone-dead to outright insulting of DC's own core readership.

I think probably the sole reason Stargirl has remained so bright and optimistic so long is that she's based of Johns' late sister. No matter how idiotic and questionable some of DC's choices have been, I don't think even they would pull a "Cass Cain" or "Mary Marvel" with their current golden boy's pet character who is an homage to his dearly departed sister.

The reboot's been pretty much a big middle finger to the majority of DC's readership. With their talk on wanting diversity and how much support the character has you'd think DC would be nice enough to let Cass exist as a supporting character somewhere. But again, this reboot has been pretty much their excuse to create their ideal DCU and considering the crap they pulled already I won't be too shocked if they did kill poor Cass.
