I would hope that Hal would have the guts to tell Sinestro to bog off, rather than selling out his principles to get a ring again.

That, unfortunately, is not the Hal Jordan I know (DCnU or not). He's a rule breaker and fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants (minds out of the gutter, kids) kind of guy. And right now, Hal has nothing to loose. This is a clear opportunity, and a chance to "keep your enemies closer."

To a certain extent, I imagine Hal's thinking that it'd be better to have Sinestro nearby at all times, figure out how he was given a ring, maybe even try to temper Sinestro's more...fascist tenancies.

Also, to some extent, I think Johns is playing with the idea that Hal is kind of addicted to the ring, to the power it has. Much like Sinestro, but are two sides of the same coin--Sinestro is addicted to the ring for power he can have to change things, and Hal is addicted to the ring because it gives him the ultimate thrill and allows him to forget about his crappy human existence.

Having Sinestro close is one thing, having Sinestro close and with his finger on your life support, quite another.

Good point on the possibility of ring addiction, which would be an interesting storyline to investigate, but if true, would surely preclude Hal being a GL in future, someone whose will is subordinate to obsession or dependency on the ring isn't perhaps the best bearer of a weapon which requires focus to operate.

Interesting hook. What *would* someone do if they had Aladdin's Lamp and it was suddenly taken away?

Sinestro's fascist tenancies?

That sounds slightly worse than just not arranging to get the boiler fixed.

Yeah I liked that a lot. Because like has been said many times before, Hal Jordan is the man who uses the most powerful weapon in the universe to make a giant green boxing glove.

nothing against boxing gloves... they come in handy... but NOT when the goal is the put out a fire, or catch someone!

Hal Jordons portrayls are always so off the the wall, sometimes he is reckless bad boy, other times he is uptight space cop. Anyway this issue was awesome and Sinestro has been a total badass. Even while he observed his planet being enslaved and was attacked from behind he never losst his cool and was a complete badass(I love the garret wire scene). Hal Jordan was still pretty cool, the first thing he did when he got a new ring was try to vulcan blast the hell out of sinestro.

Overall this was a great issue and I will enjoy it while it lasts, because I am really getting the feeling Geoff will be done with GL soon. I do not see him taking the series more then a few more arcs.

Y'know, I'd really like to see the Green Lantern ring worn a different way. Like, as a nose ring or a belly button ring.

Just a thought.

I believe Bzzd wore his around his abdomen, before he died.

Bzzd was very tiny.

Well, Dex-Starr does wear his Red Lantern Ring on his tail.

And there was Mogo, who wore it... somewhere.

And, of course, there's what Kyle did in that one JLA Classified arc- swallowed the ring and channeled it all through his hands.

(That'd certainly prevent the occasional "Haha got your ring I am so sneaky and badass".. or, of course, allow for an ickier variant.)

Hal Jordan has usually been portrayed as a character who is great at being a Green Lantern, great at flying jets... and terrible at everything else. I wondered to what degree we were supposed to think that was Parallax's influence. Or, in a meta-standpoint, some kind of "Hard Traveling Heroes" holdover where Hal needs Oliver Queen as a moral guide. (Even though Hal hates having Ollie as a moral guide.)

Now, is Hal trying to be Sinestro's moral guide, or vice versa?

By vice versa, do you mean 'is Sinestro trying to be Hal's moral guide' or 'is Hal looking for a moral guide in Sinestro'.

If the former, I think it's a bit of both. Hal's willing to hang around to try to keep Sinestro in line, and Sinestro's trying to teach Hal to prioritize (the same way he does). If the latter...yeah, that's a no, unless it's a deep, deep subconscious thing that Johns hasn't done much to imply.

I meant Sinestro trying to be Hal's moral guide. Now, it is VERY hard for Hal to take any advice from Sinestro, but Sinestro doesn't have to be wrong about everything regarding being a Green Lantern. If there's more to being a Green Lantern than being a "super-hero" for your sector, let's see what that is.

Also, as much as Korugar hates Sinestro (and all Green Lanterns as a result) we've never really decided Sinestro was completely wrong taking it over. Did he want to feed his own ego or did he really want to protect Korugar from internal and external threats?

Guys remember the climax of War of the Lanterns (hmm, sounds sort of like War of the Roses, IN SPACE!)?

Hal Jordan kills Krona with his ring. The reason why the blue fools(I stand by that statement) took Hal's ring was because he was able to kill Krona when the rings all had a directive that prevented a lantern from killing a Guardian.

So, Sinestro, Hal's 1/1 on killing people when his ring should make it impossible, you want to give him a ring and trust the fail safe to protect your pink tush? Seriously, you had a yellow ring for years when he couldn't effect yellow directly. He's an uninventive but determined fighter. You're smarter than this - just take the ring back in deep space and enjoy the show.

Doesn't Sector 1417 already have two capable Green Lanterns who would notice their archenemies conquering one of their planets? And the homeworld of one of them?
