[personal profile] sherkahn posting in [community profile] scans_daily
Normally I don't bring my politico viewpoints to the board, as we have enough in real life to deal with and this is my welcome refuge, but I will be headed over to the local Occupy gathering and offer my support later on this morning.

With that said, I will print out of few of these and share with my fellow common man/woman, hopefully get a chuckle out of a few who "get the joke".

Thank q99 for inspiring me this morning!

Especially corporations.

It pleases me that the Blue Lantern based on Ganesha is the representative of the Blue Lantern Corps. He is infinitely more interesting than Saint Walker by virtue of being from a race of humanoid Elephantoids who live on the moon.

We need more moon-elephants in our lives.

As far as I can tell, We Are The 53% is people lining up to tell everybody a) how hard they work b) how shit their life is and c) you 99%ers should stop whining.

There's a Forbes article on it.

Oh... well. hmm well i think the protestors have very valid arguments. and i don't think they should be told to stop whining. its not whining when the points they make are valid.

That doesn't even begin to make sense. Those 53% are functionally the worst off among the 99%. The whole purpose of said movement is to make it so that people won't have to suffer through stuff like the 53% or even the less severe but still unfortunate 99%.

Yeah, that's kind of my line of thought -- that the 99%-ers are protesting against policies and practices that negatively impact a group of people that includes the 53% .

Of course, the 99%'s intentions are pretty broad, what with speaking for 99%, so there's probably something I'm missing.

Oh thank gawd there's an actual movement for that.

You can't believe how irritated I was when I was reading quotes from those protesters and just HOW many were art students or in the graphics industry.

Considering I'm an art student, I kept thinking how they were just wasting time and perpetrating the stereotypical image of people who go into the 'arts'.

Especially when asked about what the protest was about, they couldn't answer because they literally didn't know what to say.

Are you upset because people who are like you are protesting?

I don't get it

Yes, that's the gist of it. It's for the reasons I stated : Most of them didn't know jackshit enough about economics to make an informed opinion when actually asked. Most of them were there just because their inherent nature seems to be to 'rebel', but it's up in the air exactly rebelling over what.

If it was just about the money and job opportunities, it's a reality that all art students face. Right now I'm in my final year, I know exactly how little job opportunities there are in my field, and that I would probably not find a job even IN this field for at least a year or until I get enough non-paying internship experience at the very least.

I'm NOT going to blame society or 'the man' for that reality.
