Batman & Dracula: Red Rain

So for Halloween, I figured I'd post the Batman Vampire Trilogy from Elseworlds. First up is "Red Rain".
Disclaimer: All three are full-length graphic novels. This represents a third of the pages in the first book.
Gotham City has been plagued by mysterious red rains.

Bruce Wayne is haunted by dreams of a mysterious woman. On his nightly patrol as Batman, he comes across bodies with their throats slashed open.
Commissioner Gordon is told by the Mayor to find who is committing these murders, but to keep the investigation low-profile.

At Wayne Manor, Batman tells Alfred that he can't attend a finance meeting, lying that he is too tired.

Later, when Bruce tries to open his car door, he rips off the handle. He then finds that he is able to lift the car with little strain. He asks his doctor if there is anything unusual with his blood, but nothing can be found. Bruce has also developed strange contusions on his back that he doesn't know the origin of.
Batman goes to an expert on the occult named Ariane for information about vampires.
Batman later follows some clues to the sewers, where he comes across the creatures of the night.

The vampires swarm over Batman, but he is rescued by a group of people with stake guns. He is introduced to the woman from his dreams, who repeats her following mantra.

Batman breaks the spell by attacking Dracula, but is slashed in the process.

She explains after feeding on innocent people, she had been reminded of her humanity after seeing Dracula feed on a child. After that, she had survived on animals before concocting an artificial plasma serum that helps sate her cravings. She has been trying to help other vampires as well.
Batman later has a meeting with Gordon to tell him what he is up against. Gordon believes the notion of vampires is absurd.

Later, Tanya gives a weakened Bruce a transfusion of her blood and tells him that has taken his friend. Batman assumes that she is referring to Alfred, but it is actually Gordon.
With the help of Tanya, Batman manages to lure the vampires underneath Wayne Manor.

Dracula turns into the giant bat-creature and Batman reveals his own wings. Dracula is furious that Tanya had given him the "gift".

Date: 2011-10-24 09:46 pm (UTC)Incidentally, I long to live in a world where "inker" is a respected enough term that can be actually known and recognized by things like, say, Firefox's spelling autocorrect. YES, FIREFOX, INKERS ARE ACTUAL THINGS.
So if you're posting Crimson Mist, may I use your scans for About_Faces? I've been meaning and needing to post that one in Doug Moench series, but didn't have scans handy. I'd appreciate it! :)

Date: 2011-10-24 11:16 pm (UTC)I've always thought Bloodstorm was the best in the trilogy for reasons I won't spoil for those who are new to it, but I thought it was the best blend of the vampire story with preexisting Batman mythology.

This was really good...
Date: 2011-10-25 08:56 pm (UTC)Such a bad ass moment having Batman simutaneously tempt and taunt Dracula by drawing a cross out of his own blood!! Great stuff!
