We're already talking about a life form growing way beyond anything that normal evolution or nature would permit, I have absolutely no issues with the concept of it simultaneously developing a much more efficient oxygen processing system, and a more sturdy, yet lighter skeletal (or exo-skeletal) frame.

One thing I'll note about Atomic Robo is a lot of stuff *does* follow the Square Cube law. Only some weird stuff violates it, and the scientists scratch theirs heads whenever it shows up.
