AA is quickly becoming one of my favorite Marvel books.

Angst! Generational conflict! Hawkeye joins the staff!

Hazmat, Finesse, Mettle, Reptil and Striker are worried about the new students at AA. They think they're about to get canned. So when Pym, Cap and Cage call them over for a talk, it doesn't go well.



Fight scene is fighty.

Jocasta breaks them all up and tells the teachers they're being insensitive. Cap assures the crew they're not being replaced.



Hazmat and Mettle retire to her quarters where they try to snu-snu.



Later, everyone hugs it out.



The new faces are student-teacher Lightspeed and the new White Tiger.

I like this book.

Yea, they really need Hawkeye here. Those kids have had it pretty hard and the others aren't giving them much slack, Jocasta aside (I'm surprised how Luke's acting, not exactly impressive).

Lightspeed and Tiger seem like good additions too.

Luke Cage always puzzles me. He says stuff and it sounds cool sometimes, but it never makes much sense.

Even better than that? There's going to be a two-parter with the Pride's Kids. Finally we get to see them again!

I think they're trying for a "He's an asshole but he's our asshole" type of thing with Striker.

They did it better with Hellion in the New X-Men.

Every school needs "the cool teacher". The one that will teach them about explosives and the embarrising anecdotes of other faculty members (Though it seemed Striker had that pretty much covered here, the prick).

Oooh, low blow Striker.. really low blow. Hawkeye is a brilliant addition to the Academy. He wuld know better than anyone what those kids are going through.

Also, I'm thinking Janet's consciousness is manifesting itself in Jocasta somehow.

I WAS GOING TO MAKE A JOKE ABOUT HOW HE'S THE MANDATORY JERKASS OF THE GROUP AND PERHAPS LAURA WAS GOING TO HIT ON HIM WHEN SHE JOINS THE CAST.

I rather like him (as much as I like anyone in Avengers Academy), but then again, I often like jerkass characters ;)

An alien crew member and potential love interest in the Mass Effect series. Like all Quarians her immune system is completely useless from several centuries on a sterile fleet (long story), so the practically live in their suits.

You read about the time he stared down Thanos then, kiddo? Or about how many times he's stopped Hitler from being reborn into the body of a robot / Superman / monster? I get the the MU is where everyone questions the heroes but jeez, you don't talk to Cap that way without it being ridiculous.

I think I saw Boulder/Butterball in the preview and it had me thinking about something

Perviously they said he was slow because he was fat. But he's totally invulnerable to the point he doesn't even feel sensations, just about unkillable.

I'm out of shape myself and pretty slow. But I can sprint at a decent pace for a few seconds. I just rapidly get out of breath and tired and sore. But Boulder would never run out of breath or get sore. So why is he slow?

Hopefully it's a good guest appearance.

Personally I'm more excited about the arc in Daken.

Lack of strength. As I recall they basically said with his invulnerability he has a static metabolism. He can't get any stronger then he currently is. He can run around all day, just not very fast. He could lift a certain wait all day, but he would build any additional muscle mass from it. Basically he is a totally average aside from his invulnerability and nothing they could do changed that.

Because he doesn't have the muscle mass to move his bulk quickly. If you look at Olympic runners, they are various sizes depending on their speciality, but they all have very low body fat. Very fit, fat people are still not usually fast runners - just very strong and with tremendous endurance.

Oh, Hazmat and Mettle. You crazy kids. Honestly, I don't blame Hazmat for freaking out, though. I mean, the first time she ever tried to have sex, her powers sprouted up and nearly killed her boyfriend, so she's got that running through her head all the time. Plus, it probably wouldn't be brought up in comic world since it seems to be ignored when people like The Thing are in relationships, but Mettle's skin actually is made of some sort of metal and he's like twice as big as Hazmat. Put that together with the fact that Hazmat is a virgin and I can't imagine their first time as being all that awesome for her.

I think we're supposed to feel sorry for him because he got molested as a kid. Seems to be a reoccurring theme in this book. Hazmat and Striker been through sooooo much trauma you have to feel bad for them, even though they aren't really interesting or likeable characters.

I actually like Hazmat and see that she has a vulnerable and softer side to her. Striker is just...so damn unlikable.

Hazmat is just horrible to everyone. I don't really care if she's nice to someone other than her boyfriend once in a blue moon, she's still terrible 99% of the time. Like in this issue when she insulted Julie Power by calling her "Double Rainbow Barbie", that was pretty homophobic.

Mettle could do better.
