Hope and Laurie and a gun

So I mentioned this, and then I never posted it; so there it is! The fall out from the Laurie and Hope tension during Schism (err, not that sort of tension, sorry), in Generation Hope #12.

I don't think Laurie was ever going to shoot Hope. She doesn't have it in her. That said she does seem to change her mind easily, but perhaps Hope's power influences her. She still somewhat wins this argument, you'll note.

I'm pretty sure it's been implied that Hope has been telepathically 'influencing' the Lights. Maybe even stated, not sure. The scene honestly just makes me think that that's true. Comes off more creepy than slash-y to me, but hey.

The last issue had Hope outright coercing her team to stay and fight the Sentinel attacking Utopia. She did it consciously as well - Laurie called her out on it no less - which officially makes her to me a horrible person and no sob story about how her father died two months ago excuses what she did to them. There's also a bit of influence on Idie as well in that issue, where Hope basically plays on Idie's desperate desire for someone to love her to get her to stay as well, and then Hope is just "well, if you don't stay Idie will be alone" to Laurie.

Laurie is aware that she's being influenced, as is Kenji, and they aren't liking it much.

Indeed. Whenever a character enters into "Hey, I had a good reason for mind controlling you" territory, I want to punch him or her in the face. Saying "I want Cable to be right, otherwise his death had no meaning" wants me to punch her even harder.

Seriously people, get a psychic defense and deploy it. Constant low level mind-control is how heroes like Max Lord decay into supervillains. Just incorporate defense headsets into your costumes, and put this behind you. Forge made anti-psychic gear twenty years ago, and every X-team has access to Cerebro-tech.

This reminds me of someone who made a cut of the Star Wars prequels with every 'love scene' between Anakin and Padme undercut with the Imperial March, making the whole relationship a Force Mindcontrol thing, which makes them ten times more interesting.

well. its because Laurie saw her in a truely human moment. she saw that despite the fact that she looks like she has it all together, she is just as scared as they are. She see's her more as a person now, and Hope acknowledges that there are issue. to Laurie it was all afirst step. a small one, but a step none the less, if it makes you feel better Kenji still wants to go Magneto on her
