Well, if I recall correctly, the first Spider-Man movie (well, of the recent runs) had a street singer who was singing about spider-man throughout the movie. You'd only catch short clips of him singing.. and it was, if not direct quoting, at least a tip of the hat to this.

Joe Shuster, right? The Fleisher cartoons were brilliantly animated, but you can see it was all down on paper before they came to the property.

One of those words with two opposite meanings. The definition "too strong to be resisted" is what's meant here. It's fallen out of common usage.
