Three scans from Agents of Atlas #5.

The Agents have arranged a staged fight with the New Avengers in order to justify not giving their supplies to Norman and co.  The Agents are, on the whole, losing the staged fight, with Venus in charge of getting them out and leaving the New Avengers feeling that they've won.

No comment on the imagery on the right side of the page.

My favorite part was Namora punching Carol and sending her flying.

This book just never disappoints. The Carol/Namora fight was the most fun I've had all month. I actually LOLd IRL at the salt water line. And Spidey got to be smart! Actually, most of the Avengers got to be smart.

And I feel all weird about it, but I'm starting to like Temugin.

Is Venus actually supposed to be Venus/Aphrodite or just someone with powers like the mythological character?

She's a Siren. She thought she was the for-real actual Venus, for a while, but Namora recognized her as an evil sea monster and informed her otherwise. It was something of a problem for team cohesion for a little while, but Venus is a basically good kid who's done a lot to atone, and she couldn't really help being evil at the time, it kind of comes with the whole "being a Siren" territory, so they got over it.

Agents of Atlas is really the best.

'Smart'? He went after 'the easy one'. Everyone knows that 'the easy one' actually translates to 'the secret weapon in disguise'.

I love Hawkeye going 'that was awesome' after he's just been psychologically ass-kicked. It shows you just how effective in a fight Venus really is - when she enters the fight, people STOP FIGHTING. It makes you wonder what would happen if she pitted her power up against some group or race that is preconditioned towards unthinking hatred, like the Sons of the Serpent or the Deviants - how would they react when faced with unconditional love? Would they get really blissed out, or just confused and bewildered at having the basis for their existence completely flip-flopped?

The bottom right panel of the first page shouldn't be sexy.

it shouldn't be sexy.

it shouldn't be sexy.

But....

And she's singing "As time goes by" isn't she?

Play it, Sam!

Temugin? As in the Mandarin's son?

Yeah, I think.

Not really sure of the context though. I think that they hired him so that he wouldn't be wondering around causing trouble by himself or something.

So Venus' powers work on women as well? Or does this mean Carol swings both ways?

And isn't Jessica Drew part of this crew (hey it rhymes)? I'd love to have seen a Jess' pheromones vs. Venus' voice tug-of-war.

It is my considered opinion that Jimmy is having entirely too much fun.

Exactly. It's similar to when someone sends a child to face you. The very last thing you want to do is just stand there and laugh. Just ask Goliath of the Philistines.

If you read the issue, SPOILER WARNING: he actually figures out that the Agents aren't really bad guys through detective work and paying attention to his spider-sense. Jimmy Woo is about to confess and tell them about the infiltration plan when M11 apparently recognizes Logan from a mission to Cuba in the late 50s - I don't have that story to hand right now, but it was, you know, a typical flashback!Logan story with a high body count - and attacks without warning. So then all hell breaks loose.

So yeah, he was actually pretty smart! Ten times smarter than he is in his own series, sadly.

Dammit, she's military, you're not supposed to ask that question.

Though, you know, Carol's reaction is a bit unusual. I can't recall any women getting the good tickles from the song itself; when Venus made them see other stuff (like when they discovered M-11 was a Yellow Claw plant), sure, but here all the Avengers seem to be reacting to just the music. Admittedly I've only read the AoA stuff, and Venus may have had other effects elsewhere.

Of course, if Carol does swing left of center, I have no idea which Jessica to even ship her with (or hey! Namora! They had so much fun beating each other up this issue...) so nevermind. She's straight, it's simpler. ^_^

How about Carol/Karla?

Wait, Venus' powers work on women? But in Runaways Karolina was unaffected while all men went RAR I'M IN LOVE... Was it because it was a different character, she was weaker, or simply the writer overlooked it?

Plus him joking about "the weakest" is just that - joking. He noticed her sidle away from the fight and specifically went after her out of an understanding that "apparent nobody sneaking off to poke at the electronics" is absolutely never a good thing.

I read stuff like this, I actually understand why people *like* Spidey so much.

Oh. OK, that is pretty smart, then. But the bit I was talking about wasn't particularly.

... which is a bit irritating, given that she was supposed to be the real, honest-to-Olympus Venus when she first appeared, and other stories that have featured her have mentioned her activities on Earth in that series, but that's the way it goes.

Some have pointed out that a sling was a legitimate weapon back then. Goliath was facing an armed boy.

He's another descendant of Ghengis Khan and was brought in by the Mr. Lao as Jimmy's understudy. So if Jimmy messes up, Temugin gets the Atlas foundation.
