Not quite the same sucker-punch that it was in Ultimate Fallout, but here's three pages from Spider-Man's Funeral in Ultimate Fallout, from a different angle.

This feels like the pages were arranged differently. Why was Gwen talking to them about Peter the first half, but gives them the cold shoulder in the last page?

Also, hot DAMN this is gorgeous art.

Does getting Spider powers automatically give you a Guilt Complex?

DO they have guilt complexes? I must admit, that I haven't read either of their series. ^^; (Though Spider-girl is on my To-read list.)

Not that I recall no. Certainly not like Peter did.

Miguel did have a bit of a guilt complex actually.

May not generally, but she did have her moments.

Miguel not really at first, though it builds up over his adventures. (Marvel put out some nice Omnibus collections of him at the same time as they did it with Danny Ketch!Ghost Rider's classic series...should get them to replace my old dusty scratchy issues...)

Mayday does undergo through the same path, have the same questions about she does, a guilty conscience and whatnot and ends up helping out people each time she tried stop being Spider-girl.

It seems so.
Like having your parents die before your eyes,
or being doused in chemical products,
or being the last from your kind,
and so forth :P

This is why Ultimate Gwen is so cool. As much as I hate tge resurrection gimmick in comics, bringing her back was on of the smartest moves Bendis could make, because he just has such a great voice for her.

No-one else in the cast could talk about Peter like this, not even MJ.

I heartily approve of the women that Ultimate Peter ended up surrounding himself with, they were all awesome in their different ways. :)

Miles has yet to impress me though, due to him seeming to be incredibly whiny, even by Spider-Man standards.

Man, why am I not reading this? I adore Ultimate Gwen. Oh, right, because they had Peter Parker, a 16 year old kid, brutally beaten to death by a villain who isn't going to stay dead, while there's no indication that Peter will.

Now, if Peter's death holds true to form (as in, Ultimatum), and he comes back in two years, sure, I'll go get back issues and trades.

But right now, no. I think Miles is a fantastic character, and I love him as Spidey. But it was completely unnecessary to kill Peter to do this.

Unless we're talking about mainstream continuity...where it'll never happen because the only things people are willing to change are not white guys...

Yeah, kinda with you there. 616 Spidey was never really a character that I liked. He always just never quite clicked for me. I'd say it was Spider-man in general, but I freaking love MA: Spider-man and Ultimate Spider-man.

I liked the way they did his death, if you can like a death like that... I would so be prepared to give Ultimate Peter and Miles their own continuities, just because I love both so much.

I am loyal to Spidey 616 though, because he is, can be, has been so much better. They need a real innovative force to pick him up again.

What? No they didn't. If anything, Peter beat the villain to death before succumbing to his injuries gained while saving Captain America in an unrelated event.

And yes, there IS indication that Peter won't be coming back from the dead - mainly from Bendis saying that he has no intention of bringing Peter back, ever, as it would cheapen his death. He's said from the beginning that he knew that if he was going to do this, it would have to stick in order for it to be meaningful. And yes, it is very necessary when deciding to focus on a new character to do retire the old, either by making him a supporting character or having him go out in a blaze of glory.

I never trust when creators say that, though. I mean, I agree it's important and should be done in this case, but I don't believe most creators are going to hold the line if it doesn't work out. Like, I can believe that Bendis doesn't want to do it, he wants Miles to be an astounding success and everybody loves that Parker's story ended, but at the same time, I feel like he left himself plenty of outs and knew that he did, and that if Marvel said "This isn't working, we need to bring Peter back", he'd be able to convince himself that at least he could be there to do it right and, really, after all these years, he just plain misses writing Peter's life, and would then happily reverse himself.

To be fair, the Ultimate universe has been pretty good about people staying dead.

Well, except from Gwen.

Except people generally stay dead in the Ultimate Universe, so that won't happened. Unless you count giving Ultimate Spider-Woman her own book, since she's Peter's clone.

Plus Miles is doing great so far.

Except people generally stay dead in the Ultimate Universe...

except Gwen Stacy, who died and came back.

and Green Goblin, who died several times and came back.

oh, and Beast, who died, came back, and died again.

and in recent Ultimate X-Men, (SPOILER) the possibility at least of Wanda, and more recently Professor Xavier having some life after they 'died' has been teased (although, granted, one looks to be mere hallucination and the other might well be a fake out).

"So that won't happen" just means it won't happen until it someone decides it SHOULD happen, and Bendis has been as guilty of that as anybody. My point stands, especially considering we have already seen other clones of Peter in a tube (before Peter's death) that haven't yet been dealt with in continuity, IIRC.

IF they wanted Peter back, they could pull the same sort of thing they did with Gwen... a clone with all his memories. To most people, that would be enough of an excuse.

I agree Miles is doing great so far though.
