The New Avengers #18

New Avengers #18 hits the stands today.
Norman Osborn re-assembles his Dark Avengers team.



Just kidding about the Dick Cheney.
But Osborn has brought together some scary people.

Most of the issue is the various factions of Hydra, AIM, the Hand coming together under those still loyal to H.A.M.M.E.R. and their reasoning why. Inbetween, we see Norman going around the world recruiting his heavy hitters.


The line-up:
Wolverine (the Gorgon), Scarlet Witch (Toxie Doxie), Hulk (Skaar), Spider-man (Ai Apaec), Ms. Marvel (Suprema), Hawkeye (Bart Barton).

Not pictured: Thor (Ragnarok cyborg clone).

Wow. An entire team that'll make enemies go...WHO?

Except Skaar. And I only vaguely know Suprema who played a role in Captain America Corps I believe.

The only one I even heard of was Skarr--the others...I know I'm more familiar with DC, but I've literally never heard of the others at all.

And yeah, it feels like at this point Bendis is just recycling his ideas.

Just shove a former Crimson Dynamo (or Rhodey's mercenary friend) into the Patriot armor and keep on trucking.

Clone-Thor is still around? Didn't Asgard crash-land on his head during Siege?

Ragnarok was the Thor clone that Tony and Reed created during Civil War. Suprema...I think she has something to do with the Red Skull. Not completely sure.

The rest I have never heard of and I have read Marvel all my life.

Toxie Doxie was in Norman Osborn's mini. Gorgon is one of the Inhumans, but I'm pretty this is a different Gorgon. (Wolverine villain, I think.)

I didn't read that mini but I looked her up (after searching every single place I could think off...couldn't find her on comicvine, the Marvel wiki, the regular wiki, finally found her on Marvel's official database) so now I know and the Gorgan fella is some samurai dude whom Wolverine "killed". Not to be confused with Gorgon of the Inhumans or Amadeus's girlfriend.

Toxie Doxie and Ai Apaec both turned up in the Osborn mini and very very nice there, I am very disappointed at the fact that they ruined Ai Apaec's design by adding the black spider-man suit. He is far more awesome looking in his original giant bleeping spider God form.

But yeah, Norman's new team is not very impressive.

He appeared in the Initiative soon after Secret Invasion, and escapes, but then re-surfaces in Siege: Thor, where he and Thor have a big fight in issue #610. Thor wins, but the disposal of his body doesn't seem to be treated (unless it's in Siege Aftermath, which I haven't checked. Or the main mini, but I'm sure I would remember that).

Gorgon is from Wolverine - Enemy of the State and the recent Secret Warriors books. He's one of the most bad ass characters Marvel has made in a while.

Doesn't need to be. Skaar, Suprema and the Gorgon will give any Avenger's squad a handful. the others are distractions.

About Al Apaec.. I also would have liked to have seen a more "tribal" looking Spider-man with indigenous design. He's look is so strong it caused hardened H.A.M.M.E.R. agents to flee.

Meh, I like seeing Norman back in action, so good for him. And the characters in the Osborn mini would have likely been forgotten if he hadn't brought them back here.

I just hope that Norman does his own thing for the forseeable future and doesn't get arrested in a year.

He actually ends up confronting Volstagg underneath floating Asgard, and then gets crushed when the Sentry brings the place down (Volstagg, amazingly enough, proves better at getting out of the way). In order for him to appear here, AIM needs to have dug him out from underneath, under the noses of the Asgardians.

Wasn't Elektra supposed to make it double dog sure that he couldn't be resurrected? Kinda weird seeing him play another person's flunky too.

Thor later took him the fuck out when they were clearing rubble, so it might be a new one.

Gorgon was impressively badass in Secret Warriors.

I'm finding him significantly less badass cosplaying as Wolverine and working for Osborn.
