As Babs meets Dick

Following the events on the train seen in the preview (Which doesn't end terribly well), Babs has to go through the slightly embarassing process of reclaiming her motorcycle from the Gotham City Vehicle Pound. There she runs into a certain well known acrobat, who seems to just want to see how she is. Babs is instantly on her gaurd in such situations...

Good to know that even in the DCNu, Dick hasn't changed THAT much; Kory,,, Babs,,, Roy!

And so the chase continues... it's quite cute and rather fun, though it's sort of easy to see where it's heading, and the staging and art of the chase and fight, both mock and real (you'll see) is excellent. Dick gets a little overprotective, Babs is maybe pushing away people who care about her. There is still no actual indication of how she's walking again I might add.

There's also a slightly random seeming (and not terribly clearly delineated) flashback scene where a younger Babs and Dick demonstrate their chase technique, it's... sort of appropriately athletic. I include this scan mostly because seeing a slightly younger Dick Grayson casually performing acrobatics whilst in a immaculate dinner jacket makes a little part of my hindbrain go "Hnnnnnnrg!" :) (Yes, I know this is Batgirls title, and I am sorry but I've still not been able to find a copy of Nightwing #2 at my LCS and I'm risking Dick-withdrawal here!*)

* What do you mean, double entendre?

Well, at the very least it was rude. Or, given their flirting, and the fact that Helena was someone Barbara knew, passive-aggressive on Dick's part. There was nothing accomplished with the call that couldn't have waited until he had left Helena's, so making certain Barbara knew about it seemed to be at least in part an objective. (or, at least DEVIN Grayson's objective, if not Dick's.)

Not to me, no. Given the following scene between Dick and Helena, I find "oblivious" more fitting than "passive-aggressive".

It seems disingenuous to me to reproach a writer for meaning to write the things they wrote. I hope it was her objective to write Dick and Babs interacting.

I think it's entirely ingenuous to question a writer's choices as to why and where a scene took place. Nothing came from Dick and Babs 'interacting' where and when they did other than to verify what Dick and Helena had done, and to make Barbara aware of it. I tend not to see Dick as 'oblivious' in any situation, therefore I see 'passive-aggressive'. He knew what he was doing.
Your assessment is different, but that's where the old 'YMMV' comes in.
I'm still hoping that in the 'new' DCU it never happened.

Okay.

I see Dick as oblivious in all situations where he's unaware of a woman's attraction to him, for instance. Such as the thing with Clancy. I think I'd find it hard to keep on finding likeable if I thought for one moment he wasn't genuinely not getting it.

He knew what he was doing.
Obviously. But Babs is not just a love-interest. She was basically dispatch center in Gotham. So yeah: he wakes up, calls her, tells her where he is if she needs him.
