I'm not going to put character tabs on this one, as I want the surprise to be maintained. I'll pop them in a few days...

Oh yeah. I'll definitely be looking forward to this. Still pissed that DC put the kibosh on their partnership in favour of just shovelling Bruce back into every book going.

And agreed, the Bruce/Damian dynamic has been every bit as dull as I was afraid it would be. Even Tomasi can't make it work for me, which is a shame (He even have Damian calling Alfred "Alfred" rather than "Pennyworth")

The point to me was that Damian was correct. Calling him Pennyworth is the correct form of address for the butler in a home, lower servants would be called by their first name, but not the butler.

Really? I wasn't all that excited for Tomasi's run, but I think this is just as strong as the Dick/Damian relationship--just has different problems.

Seeing the proud look on Dick's face as Damian roughs up the baddie just creates a fuzzy good feeling. Oh how I miss Team D&D.

One of the most interesting things Morrison did on Batman was to inverse the character roles: light-hearted Dick becomes the friendlier and easy-going Batman while Damian becomes the grim and too-serious Robin. Their dynamic was interesting, especially when it became clear that, beneath the rude snark, Damian actually respected and admired Dick and wanted to gain his acceptance and approval in a way he perhaps didn't from his father. He's like the big brother Damian never had, showing him a different path than what Bruce took or what Talia told him he'd have to take...and while he doesn't like to admit it, I think he aspires to be Nightwing.

And I think that's pretty great.

Agreed. And other writers cottoned on to that perhaps better than Morrison (Who set the scene, but spent so much time focussing on Damian, who is, essentially, his creation, that Dick seemed sidelined rather a lot. Though in fairness, Morrison's issue of Future-Damian as Batman has him noting that he knows he'll never be as good a hero as Bruce or Dick were)

Dick tolerated a lot of things from Damian, perhaps too many (Such as never calling him on his rudeness towards people who deserve his respect, especially the likes of Donna Troy or women in general), but didn't set anything more than broud guidelines in their working relationship. He taught by example as much as anything, and as the first and only person to accept him as he was, and on his own terms, that was something new and quite wamr and fuzzy, in a typically Damian-snark-accented sort of a way.

When Bruce returns, he notes in observing the new Duo that Dick's work with Damian is astonishing, and not something he could have managed himself.

The first Bruce/Damian story here though, has Bruce forbidding Damian to go out on patrol for his own safety, and Damian going anyway, which is almost painfully predictable.

This reset, plus the lack of any indication of HOW and WHY Dick stopped being Gotham's Batman, just seems like such a waste.

Dick and Damian's dynamic was so much fun and better than what we have with Bruce now!
