A smidge under four pages from DEMON KNIGHTS 3, plus two pages from issue 2...

What surprises me, given this cast, is that when the gory/horrible scenes do happen, they're actually less gratuitous than a lot of what I've seen in the DCnU, and the latter days of the DCU before it.

I'm really enjoying how all the characters interact with each other. The "love triangle" between Xanadu, Blood, and the Demon is really interesting, and the relation between...Amazon woman who's name is way to complex to spell right off-hand and "Sir" Ystin.

Ystin in particular is interesting...part of me would like to see at some point her accept that she doesn't need to mascarade to be a knight, but then I wonder if that takes away what makes her unique. This may be one time where feminist enlightment might take away a bit from a female character.

And I just thought of something--Cornell has said that this book has a lot of connections with Stormwatch, and at some point we'll see a Century Baby. Ystin says, "I've lived a long time, but I can be killed. I know I can." What if it's her?

If I weren't getting this already, "Midieval Dragon Mechs" certainly would.

And a return of the Bad News Ninja, this time possessing Horsewoman!
"HORSEWOMAN AWAAAAAAAAAY!!"

Ystina's HA HA HA!!! is great, but it looks a bit out of place with the rest of the issue's presentation of exclamations.

But a dialogue bubble'd probably be just as out of place around her there, too..

Those dragons seem something like a kids' book, like something from Disney or Sonic... which goes to proves that kid stuff is STILL awesome not matter what.

Aaah I'll be gutted if this get cancelled after 6 issues, it's so good!

Also the part after that last page made me sad. :(

Yeah, I might get it on principle, just to say to DC, "HEY. LOOK AT THIS SERIES. YOU SHOULD DO MORE OF THIS."

Plus, I love Cornell. I was so sad when Captain Britain and MI-6 got cancelled.

Lol, yeah. Well I got it entirely because of that conversation Cornell had with kirax2 about his dedication to keeping it a predominantly female cast, and I know other people did too.

Cornell has easily been my favourite writer of the DCnU, what with this and Stormwatch. <3

I didn't know that conversation was had, but I'm very glad it was.

I love that the good, smart, well-drawn historical adventure title is also the one with the most robust and varied cast of ladies. I hope it runs forever and ever and ever. Or at least for a few years.

Yeah, after one of the panels where the panellists were really rude to her (when she asked about female characters), he apparently came over and asked if he could pitch to her personally, and that's when he commented on the female characters in Demon Knights.

And yeah, I really hope so too. I'm so so worried that it'll hit the chopping block, it'd be such a waste. :(

Okay, so I'm trying to decide whether I should read Stormwatch. I know pretty much nothing about the Wildstorm characters--does it matter?

I wouldn't say so, no. The pre-existing characters for the most part have been completely re-configured (new origins/histories etc), so knowledge about their old incarnations doesn't really make much difference. Not to mention, half of the team is new characters anyway. :)

I'd definitely recommend giving it a go, thus far Cornell has been doing a fantastic job with it.

True. And both times in either of the series (there was a Bob in both Blackadder II and Blackadder Goes Forth, right?), she seemed to be really trying.

Yeah, but second time around Edmund didn't even pretend for five minutes out of politeness to be fooled.

"Oh, sir! I want to see how war is fought, so badly!"
"Well, you've come to the right place, Bob, because I can't think of when a war has been fought so badly."

Hmm...

Does anybody else get the feeling that Sir Ystin might be a transman?

I do.

Makes me feel pretty annoyed by the way all the characters insist Ystin's a man. Hope the narrative will address this in a way that doesn't feel face-palmy.
