Now as you know, when it comes to shorts in the DCU, I usually have one pair in mind...

I believe this aired alongside the Green Lantern Premiere last night.



Tiny Teen Titans, Plastic Man, an incredibly wide range of animation styles, live action Blue Beetle... is that freaking AMETHYST?!?!? :)

Shows potential... a LOT of potential, no? :)

Tonight, as I get closer to finishing my run on SUPERMAN and prepare for my next project (still only in the negotiation stage right now) I am starting to pencil an inventory issue of BIRDS OF PREY-- just so I can draw some nice looking babes!

An inventory issue of Nightwing would have been nice IMHO, but what the heck, it'll certainly be pretty!

Wow. DC nation is really going in an all new direction!

- A new Batman series? Male.
- Green Lantern series? Male.
- Young Justice. I guess there are female characters in the show, but all I see/hear are Robin and Superboy. Heck, the trailer showcases Robin destroying something that Martian Girl looked to be fighting.
- Blue Beatle? Male.
- Those funky looking Batman animated bits? Male.
- Batman Lego? Dunk all the characters in white paint, they're all male.

"Hundreds of heroes, tons of villains and you all make up a nation. DC Nation."

That's great DC. Let me know when the women of your nation go through their suffrage stage. If anyone thinks I'm being unreasonable, than I ask you. What am I supposed to take away from this trailer? Because there's nothing here that's new or innovative. It's just the same male dominated crap we've been getting over and over again through the decades. I'm starting to get to the point where I don't care even if their shows are great. I'm that tired of this crap.

No, I absolutely see where you're coming from, but if there's anything that 50/50 taught me, I'm going to wait for the actual shows. Sometimes advertising isn't always great at portraying the content. I admit, it looks about 100% male, but I will hold out hope until the actual shows air and are probably 99% male.

Well, they seem to be addressing the male/female dynamic in Young Justice, with Artemis and Megan both getting more character development and screentime as the series progresses, as well as the addition of more female characters into the cast, such as Zatanna and one of the original YJ comic cast members as well.

They didn't seem to have anything from the Lauren Faust Wondergirl/Batgirl/Supergirl series, but that was only announced a couple of weeks ago, so it's unlikely that they have anything to show for that yet.

Yep--a series of minute-long shorts called "Super Best Friends Forever."

Fantastic. DC is bringing in a very talented woman who achieved an impossible feet by raising My Little Pony to critical success that has fans from both genders, and we're only giving her only a minute?

Yeah. That's not saying anything about how DC feels regarding female driven shows. Give the male shows full running times, but only have one female show that lasts only a minute.

All of their shorts are a minute long--including mini-Teen Titans, Doom Patrol, and claymation shorts by the creator Wallace & Gromit.

Aardman Animation are involved? This just hit an insanely new level of cool (Hands up those who want to see Batman and Ace as played by Wallace and Gromit?

They actually showed one of them as a preview during the GL:TAS premiere--it was a bit of a different design than what we'd see with Wallace and Gromit, and was basically Batman, Superman, Joker, and Catwoman as "kiddie" versions doing silly things.

Well, you must delighted that such great talent isn't worth a full half-hour slot. Just skim right past them and let the big male driven shows draw all the attention.

Shorts are the perfect testing ground to see what might be popular and thus merit a full length series.

The Wonder Woman movie was more popular than the Green Lantern movie, but Green Lantern got a series. Popularity isn't an absolute element in the decision making process on shows like these.

I thought that was because GL got a live action movie?

Though I was so utterly bored and offended by the badness of GL (the movie) that I totally skipped the DTV. While I so enjoyed Wonder Woman from her DTV (and Apocalypse) that I went back and read Rucka's run for the first time (amazing!).

But I'm strange, and people never make shows with me in mind.

Yep, that's her. Lauren Faust, from MLP:FiM fame (and other minor projects, such as Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends! ;)
