After posting artwork from issue #1, I guess I should show something from #2. Reading this this issue, it struck me how sometimes it was actually creepier than From Hell.

Something that's just occurred to me as I was (re)reading this was how much of it is the thin boundaries between people's memories, fantasies, dreams, and other private/inner/secret worlds, and those of others as well as the outside world; presumably, as the series went on, the boundaries would have become more chaotic, which makes me pine even more for the rest of the series that will, in all likelihood, never come to be. What I wouldn't give for even a quick peek at the outline of the series that Moore is supposed to have drawn up on a big piece of paper.

That full color mandelbrot pattern in the middle there is a real kick amidst the greys. Supposedly this would have developed with more color each issue as things went on, leading to full color by the end.

The sweet poetry of the indian shopkeeper who retreats to a fantasy world in his basement with his toy trains is deeply affecting to me, somehow. The whole quiet desperation of all the characters in this series is just so well written. What a tragedy that it never will be completed.
