sherkahn: (Headmaster Logan)
[personal profile] sherkahn posting in [community profile] scans_daily
ComicBookResources has the preview as Day #1 at the Jean Grey School of Higher Learning continues.

What else do I have to say? Mayhem ensues. But before that, Logan has a talk with Bobby.

I love how just a lot can chance in a few panels. You can "feel" the earth shift for Bobby and a new direction take place within him.

""Well, Logan, Jean tapped her potential and look how well that turned out for her. So, I'm gonna just keep on being the joke guy, okay?"

That being said, I'm actually sort of excited about this. We got to see how entirely badass AoA Iceman was in X-force and it'd be cool to see 616 Bobby live up to that. The dude doesn't get a lot of time to shine and it'd be nice if this book let him show off what he's really capable of.

As I said elsewhere, AoA Iceman was more "sentient ice" than "Bobby Drake." Also, in the AoA, Iceman didn't mind freezing bad guys until they shattered. Hopefully we won't get that.

Didn't actually read the arc, just saw a few scenes. It'd just be cool if Bobby started doing stuff like Hank Pyming it up (growing, not unintentional evil) or teleporting. (Shattering and reconstituting elsewhere.) He's just so uncreative with his really awesome powerset.

Didn't a telepath unlock him for a while and manage some awesome stuff? I have a recollection Emma Frost did it.

He and Gambit both are remarkably uninterested in exploring their ridiculously interesting powers. If I were Beast, I would have been bugging them pretty much all day to get in the fucking lab.

The problem is that Bobby's powers are very prone to feature creep. Every few years, a writer expands his abilities and then they contract them or convienently forget them. I remember John Byrne expanding his powers during the Champions days where he was draining heat energy out of the air and counteract an attack, for example.

Simply put, Bobby could be one of the most powerful X-men, so they tend to restrict him.

And Cyclops! See how he tapped his potential as a leader? Or Colossus, now that he has the Juggernaut gem.

Magneto, Legion, Magik, the list goes on!

Mutants finding their full potential is always good.

I really shouldn't post this..

Feel tremendously guilty about posting this, as Cyclops has always been my favourite member of the X-Cast.

But some of you might have a good laugh at this link:-

I've rather liked him in recent years myself.

No. It sooo doesn't! LOL!

Oh well, at least Professor X doesn't have much to do with the team now. And with his old chief critic Logan gone now too, he might get more opportunities to shine..

Of course with Namor & Magneto there, he may well start getting nostalgic about the old days! ;)

Current Scott has good answers to almost all of those questions:
"I learned to turn my beams on and off without the glasses so I don't need them, though I still use them. I make strategic plans in battle, with a heavy emphasis on contingency planning, and select teams or approve the rosters of team leaders. I also effective function as governor of the island of Utopia and spokesperson for mutant kind, and deal with many political functions."

A long way from Professor X and Jean feeding him plans all the time ^^

Dear god, I want to teach seminars with this. I want whole curriculum to center around this.

"Okay, everybody, who here understands the problem? Yes, you sir."
"The employees-"
"-team members."
"Right, sorry, the sales team didn't follow his direction. Thus they are the problem."
"...You fail the course. No MBA for you."

Yep!

I'm pretty sure. I've worked alongside managers who would see absolutely nothing wrong with that outlook at all! LOL!

Enjoying the dialogue. Hating Bachalo's "action" sequences and how he draws the kids. HATING.

I'm not too upset because, really, when was the last time Bachalo was on something for more than one arc, but man...

I've just never warmed to Bachalo's style AT ALL.

You know, I can't quite put my finger on what it is I love about Bachalo's art, but for some reason the utter personality and idiosyncrasy of it just charms the hell out of me where stuff like Ramos's doesn't. So YMMV, I guess. And better stuff like this then people like Liefield or Land.

Damning with faint praise indeed! ;)

I think Bachalo is a wonderful illustrator (see also: Captain Stoneheart and the Truth Fairy), but his ability to make a story flow panel to panel had been mediocre at best in recent years, and often a couple of steps down from that.

So who had "Less than one day" in the "How long before the whole school gets demolished" pool?

I laughed so hard I almost fell off the chair. Good times when an X-book can do that.

It appears that being on the Avengers has been good for Logan. It's let him step back from the X-Men and reassess everything and everyone. in it.

I still can't get over how that's their school uniform. Everyone knows that when you pick a school uniform it is meant to be hideous and flatter absolutely no-one. I attended the local state school and my uniform was a green skirt, white-green-yellow striped blouse with a green tie, fawn socks and black shoes, and we counted ourselves lucky that we weren't wearing the pea green smock that one of the private schools wore. That thing flattered no-one.

This school uniform is actually a reasonable colour. It is so weird!
