Both the Source and ComicbookResources confirm Batgirl's role in upcoming Birds of Prey issues! :D

1. Batgirl is back on the team.

Sure, Barbara Gordon (a.k.a. Batgirl) was reluctant at first. She didn’t necessarily want to be hanging out with a gang of outlaws (see next “Thing to Know #2”), and she has serious doubts about at least one member of team (see “Thing to Know #3”). But to Batgirl, friendship trumps everything, and you’ll see exactly how she finds her way to a permanent spot on the team in issues #4 and 5.

2. Black Canary, Starling and Katana can’t show their faces in public.

That’s because they’re outlaws to one degree or another. Dinah Lance (a.k.a. Black Canary) is wanted for murder. The rumor is she killed a dude with a single punch, but the truth is far darker and stranger than that…

Evelyn Crawford (a.k.a. Starling) is wanted by at least six different intelligence organizations for knowing too much about how the world really works. How did she land in this predicament? Well, wait until you meet her Uncle Earl—a former spy who raised her, and also tries to kill her every now and again. (He has Alzheimer’s.)

And finally, Tatsu Yamashiro (a.k.a. Katana) is wanted by Japan’s National Police Agency for her blood-splattered mission of vengeance against the Yakuza for killing her husband. Criminal profilers in her country think she’s insane because she believes the soul of her husband resides in her sword. Thing is, her own teammates aren’t so sure, either…

3. Poison Ivy has turned over a new leaf.

Okay, not really. Pam Isley (a.k.a. Ivy) is still very much a dedicated eco-terrorist, targeting the people and corporations that mess with Mother Earth. So why’s she hanging out with a bunch of do-gooders like Black Canary and Batgirl (who doesn’t like, trust, and really even tolerate Ivy)? Pretty soon—say, around issue #5—you’re going to see that Ivy has a little side deal going on. Her enhanced biosuit amplifies her metahuman powers to an insane degree, but also comes at a price. And wait until you see how she plans on paying the tab…

Translation: Babs returns to the team she founded, Starling and Katana are the new Lady Blackhawk and Huntress respectively (in terms of loving guns, beer, and having the best lines, and being the certified nutjob with a personal war against the Japanese mafia), and Poison Ivy's place with the team is on the fence at best. Can't wait to meet Starling's Uncle Earl though. Sounds like a very intriguing dude!

Does it suffice to say I'm fucking excited for this book? 8D

For legality, classic Dick and Babs!

Bruce probably did teach Dick some meditative stuff--but...well, he's a teenager stuck in a very tight space with a gorgeous redhead. I don't think Bruce would fault him for that.

Which is precisely why Bruce would teach him this stuff.

So just because Starling's a new character, means she shouldn't be treated with the same level of importance as existing characters?

Explains why some new properties never get anywhere at the big two.

P.S: I can't help myself but, Dick's "It's nothing." No Dick, if it was nothing Kory, Babs and almost fifty others wouldn't have kept coming back to the well to drink. I assure you that your mini-Richard is hardly mini.

If I can find 1 without it being marked up, I will. It annoys me to no end that a lot of #1s I see in local comic stores have been marked up. I'm like yeah, I'm not paying $15 for a first printing of a comic that came out a few months ago.

I'm confused. Aren't members of the Batfamily against killing? I only ask because the characters in Birds of Prey have been killing mooks left and right. They seem much more "violent vigilantes" than "costumed superheroes".

It just seems like Batgirl would cramp their style.

The Birds haven't been killing anyone. They tried to save a reporter that was tailing them from the mooks, only for him to blow up at the airport. All the other mooks that they've encountered since then are set to blow up when they're no longer needed.

It was explained in the last issue that it's some kind of virus that causes them to be walking bombs. Where they come from or who's invention this is is yet to be revealed, but Dinah is now a walking bomb herself since one of the mooks transmitted the virus to her though kissing her.

I don't know, those people seem pretty dead to me.

Starling shooting them with guns and Katana stabbing them with swords...well those are naturally lethal weapons. Even Poison Ivy is introduced with newspaper clippings of her recent murders.

Though in the third issue, Babs DOES convince Poison Ivy to let one of the bad guys live. So, I guess they aren't completely pro-murder.

I do see what you mean, though I'm not sure if actively wounding someone in self-defence is the same as actively killing them, as in making sure they're dead. In Katana's case, she's basically the Japanese Helena Bertinelli who's waging a personal war against the Yakuza for murdering her family, and in this case she is actively killing. However, in the scenes where she's stabbing the guys in the invisible suits with the Birds, she's doing it in self-defence. Same with Starling as far as I know. As to whether or not they're really dead or just lying unconscious, that's really open to interpretation I guess, but I'm sure they didn't fight intending to kill.
