I have to say that I like that Jamie has to fight the Scarab for control.

I like it as a short term thing. The problem is a storyline such as this is never a short term thing. No matter how many writers write Jaime and the Scarab make peace/Jaime takes full control/ Jaime and the Scarab are buddies the next person will come along, undo it and write it over because they know they can do it better.

If this is allowed to sink in as one of the books main hook there's as much likelihood as a story not about that as there is about a Raven story that doesn't make her demonhood a big deal.

I thought for a moment, but then I double checked and found that it took until the 4th major appearence on The Brave and the Bold for the Reach plot to kick in.

But I think it is a legitimate fear

Have to say I'm enjoying this. I like the original series MORE for it's novelty, but the conflict between Jaime and Khaji-Dha is being well handled, and I quite like La Dama and her gang.

I was a little disappointed in another insanely weird 1960's character getting a rather humourless revamp, but I won't say who it is as I don't want to spoil the reveal.

Well solicits being out that Jaime is supposed to face a guy named Silverback just let me say Silverback might not be who he appears to be.

Yeah, that's the one. I have one last hope about who he is, if he's not the obvious choice, so here's hoping.

I hope very much that you are correct in this. (But I worry that the joyless revamp will win the day again.)

Improbable, IMHO. He's a high ranking member of the Brotherhood of Evil. His name is Silverback and we've seen what he looks like. There really aren't that many places that that can go.

well, since you've mentioned the Brotherhood people will probably put it together now so... Silverback could be Mallah's top lackey or something instead of Mallah.

Maybe this time around Grodd and Mallah and Silverback and maybe more are all Gorilla City dissidents

Oh bugger, so I did... that'll teach me to post so close to beddy-byes time.

Silverback could be Mallah's top lackey or something instead of Mallah.

Possibly, but why bother, just give us the killer gorilla with the crazy French accent!

Maybe this time around Grodd and Mallah and Silverback and maybe more are all Gorilla City dissidents

I hope not, Mallah achieved his intellect through crazy human intervention, I'd rather have that than Grodd redux.

I love how he physically expresses what he's saying in his mind. Not used to speaking to somebody else in your head, eh? And I happen to know either the best or worst coach to help you get over that problem: Professor Wade W. Wilson, M.D.

I miss the Scarab not speaking english. It was funnier this feels dumbed down in comparison.

I wish the pace would pick up. I'm feeling that it's taking way too long to tell this origin story.

So many people here, and other places, have so much affection for Jaime/Blue Beetle, and I'd never really read it. So I thought I'd give this a try. But honestly, I think maybe I should just read the last run, pre-nU. Back in the DCUsed-to-be.

Has that run been collected as trades?

Yes, it has. I favor Shellshock, Road Trip, Reach for the Star and End Game, especially End Game. There're other trades after EG but I don't know much of the story line after that. :)

It has, and you really, really should. Start with Shellshock and go from there. I personally find the last arc of the series not that great, but I rec the rest of it wholeheartedly.

This new series is disappointing me already. D:

I'm not really happy with Khaji-da's voice. It just doesn't hit me the same way the original did. I don't know. Still hopeful, still giving this series a shot, but I'm a little disappointed that way.

Okay, the art's finally catching up to Jaime Reyes!Blue Beetle adventures standard..but still... I'm having so much problem enjoying this violent reboot for such a recent character...
(they took out everything I liked, the JLI connection, the Dan Garret and Ted Kord legacy, the funny silly Paco, the parents onboard with their son super hero life...)
