I love how Point One issues seem to be becoming an every-few-months kind of thing; the idea of acknowledging every big shift in a book with a "This'll get you up to speed" issue is something.

(So what's everyone's bet on how long Scarlet Spider's going to run before its sales dip below 20,000? I'm thinking either #6 or #8, myself.)

You can use the 'Trigger warning: rape' tag. Or you could avoid making jokes that make light of rape. Because that's exactly what "surprise buttsecks" jokes are, so we'd rather not have them on scans_daily.

I remember asking people if we could do without the jokes about being raped up the arse.

Opinions were mixed on whether the community wanted to include and allow jokes about sexual assault, though I know which side of the argument I'm on.

Question: what was your reaction to the Cringworthy Moments featuring of the Swiss MTV "Can't Have Sex By Accident" comic strips?

I read through the discussion in that post you linked, and I have to agree, there's a need for interpretation beyond the immediately outlined community rules and ethos for standards of conduct and content.

Starting with "surprise buttsex" being verboten here I understand; it just does lead to calling into question all sexual innundo jokes/implications, and given the long history of certain memes as other pointed out, the community splinters a bit between "we keep a consistent rule" or "we null out one joke, but allow others" which presents a double standard.

a) My first reaction to the MTV strips was that they were a good set of ads. The MTV strips are different to the surprise buttsecks joke in a few key aspects
i) both partners are equally surprised. There isn't the same level of control and dominance in the scenario
ii) the set up is designed to be highly improbably, rather than planned, thus removing the element of intent
iii) the scenarios are exaggerated to illustrate a serious point and educate people.

The message that they get across is a useful one, the medium that they use and the story that they tell is effective. I do like that the "instigators" (for want of a better word) aren't all men and aren't all women to get across the idea that responsibility for safe sex is shared between both partners.

b) I'm not sure about how I feel about other innuendo jokes. I do know that I'm not happy with using "surprise sex," of which surprise buttsex is a variation. If you're not surehave a look at the LSE story from last week and think about why it might be problematic. I'm (happily) not in the position of being able to decide a hard and fast line for what is and is not acceptable. I can only comment on what I personally find to be distasteful.

A team dedicated to clearing up the shit left by all the other X-titles over the past lord knows how many years, whilst trying to be the mutants who actually LIVE with humans? Makes more sense to me than many X-iterations.

Honestly, for the first time in a long time, I really can't wait for a new comic book to be released. Everything I've read about it, and everything Brubaker says it will be, sounds great.

I don't know, Marvel having a second-generation-hippy Chinese American valleygirl mutant vampire definately puts them up there with some of the more unique character descriptions out there.

Like Cassandra Cain the formerly-mute, dyslexic half-Chinese eugenically created assassin ninja vigilante.

Or Kroenen, from the Hellboy movie, who is a Nazi zombie clockwork-cyborg ninja with a doctorate in the occult.

The new X-Janitors status quo hasn't been impressing me. Basically they're fighting the crappy villains that the other X-writers don't want to use any more. And frankly this book has been more about jumping from one major Crossover Event to the next than anything else.

X-Factor has been doing the mutants who live with humans thing for years. They've integrated with the greater MU.

Even without our policy-distaste for rape jokes, I don't know why it would have to be "SURPRISE buttsex". They have pretty similar expressions and Rulk's hands aren't grabbing whoever that is. If there's fucking in that picture, there's nothing more to suggest it's nonconsensual than there is to suggest it's just two big dudes having a great time.

Actually, they've only done the twelve issues in a hardcover before, and six issues in TPBs, plus the omnibus with all 24. The tpbs and original hardcovers are all largely out of print now, like a whole bunch of that era's stuff, such as the Ellis-penned Thunderbolts.

Speaking of which... Where's a 12 issue collection of Ellisbolts?
