Donna gained a Time Lord's mind because of a Biological Meta-Crisis, the exchange of certain properties between her and the newly generated Doctor 10.2, but a very unstable one from her POV, since she had a Time Lord mind, but not the brain structure to maintain it properly.

This is a different process, so the same rules don't apply, I'd say.

This would have been a million times better if it was an actual episode. Think of how much more fun Matt Smith and Karen Gillan would have had swapping parts (pun intended)? At least it wouldn't have made series 6 feel like a complete waste. I mean...we never even found out why the TARDIS exploded or who caused it to explode, yet we were supposed to find this out this past series?

Either way, great story. Especially the bit about Amy saying "Oh no, do it again. But do it slower...." Amy's crowning moments of awesome will never cease. ♥

Awesome mysteries and creepy villains < Super Awesome River Song Happy Half Hour. At least that's what I've gathered from watching the past two years of Who, and that's what Moffat's thought process seems to be.

It wouldn't be so bad if we actually got other stuff that was great alongside River, but every time she appeared, stuff got derailed, frankly;

The Silence are a bunch of aliens! But who cares because here's River Song to give the Doctor his 'The Reason Why You Suck' speech.

Let's have an intriguing title for an episode, oh, I don't know - Let's Kill Hitler! Now, have said dictator feature in less than half the episode and focus on River rather than some wacky hi-jinks with Nazis!

The Silence are actually a bunch of almost religious zealots (and aliens) dedicated to stopping the Doctor, but who cares? Here's River Song to fuck up time because she wuvs the Doctor so much and couldn't possibly have told him this the last time she lectured him.

See, I liked River Song as a character in the last two series, but after series 6 she admittedly became a lot less interesting. 'Lets Kill Hitler' was a poorly conceived episode all together, which is a pity caused I liked Mels.

Honestly I think series 6 was just there to reveal to the audience of what was LONG suspected, and by then it was hardly a surprise anymore. The "big reveal" that River was the Doctor's wife all along was nothing short of just the other shoe dropping. The fact that she also turned out to be a Time Lord and Amy's daughter was not surprising to me either since I pretty much expected it to go that route by the end of episode 2 of the sixth series.

Speaking of the Silence, I was more disappointed that they didn't make more appearances throughout the series considering how important they were in series 5 and in the first two episodes of series 6. Nope, instead they were just thrown into the series finale for consistency, which didn't do them justice IMO. I thought they were a pretty cool new monster. :(

I really don't think it helped my dislike for River Song that I called a lot of the stuff you did before it happened, too. Moffat dragged it out for too long until the point where it was no longer that interesting, for me. I actually liked her when she popped up during Tennant's last series, if I'm being entirely honest, but the entire gag - that she's kind-of like a Catwoman to Eleven's Batman - That kind of got really old, really fast, for me.

The Silence had the potential to be as good as the Weeping Angels originally were, and whilst I get the feeling we're not entirely done with them yet, Moffat's repeat uses of the Weeping Angels.. Well, that two-parter wasn't nearly as good as Blink. I also felt that Moffat kind-of wrote himself into a corner with the Silence aliens by booting them out of control of the planet seemingly via the moon-landing footage, which kind-of means that they shouldn't have been allowed to be around in 2011, unless I missed something. But he just seemed a little too quick to work around his own rules established with them, and wanted to get rid of them far too fast.

And Let's Kill Hitler was just disappointing, save for Rory's fantastic 'SHUT UP HITLER!!' moment, where I got the feeling he felt just a little bit odd saying that. :)

The Weeping Angel's return was completely wasted by, amongst other things, having these "more powerful, non-scavenger" Angels, do things like kill people (as opposed to time-shifting them), giving them a voice (albeit a stolen one), and also the completely unforgivable sin of showing them moving.

The Silence still being on Earth isn't that surprising, they're no longer in control, and they can't risk being seen by the population, but they can still move around as long as they stay hidden. (Of course the real question would be why Amy and Rory don't already have the "Kill on sight" command in their mind from having watched the moon landing in the present before travelling to the past)

The overuse of "River is so mysterious, keep watching to find out who she really is" felt like what DC is doing right now with their current reboot, where they're trying to build an aura of mystery around historically Earth-2 characters like Hunts and Peege, before revealing to everyone what's already been long suspected. Once you've speculated the hell out of the "subtle hints" that were dropped here and there, and pretty much got it all figured out by the time of the the 'big reveal,' it's just not even surprising anymore and the impact is totally lost. In River's case, once the other shoe dropped, I honestly couldn't realistically think of a situation where this character would continue to be interesting in future episodes without coming off incredibly Mary Sue-ish.

I do agree about the Silence being potentially good villains though; they were amazingly scary in the first two episodes, but I felt Moffatt offed them WAY too soon as you pointed out. Considering they were mentioned a lot in the last series, I felt they should've had a stronger presence throughout series 6 in order to build up to the events that unfolded in the last episode. Or if the Doctor was going to off them after two episodes, I felt more should have started surfacing since by then he should have been thought of as a more serious threat than what was originally thought. I do hope they come back in the future and hopefully a better plot is done with them.

Speaking of Weeping Angels, I wonder if they'll be back in future episodes as well since Big Bang II should have restored them back to history?

"Let's Kill Hitler" benefited from some absolutely stellar dialogue, mostly from Rory "Okay. Okay. I'm trapped inside a giant robot replica of my wife. I'm really trying not to see this as a metaphor." and "Amy: Can you ride a motorbike? Rory: I expect so. It's that sort of day", but River's discussion of her post post regeneration form is rather enjoyable too.

River is suffering from chronic over-use, she'd be a fun character maybe once a season, twice as a surprise, but it's focussed on her too much to NOT be annoyingly distracting.

I don't think you could have probed the whole "We can't kill Hitler" bit without getting into potentially tasteless territory. All we needed to know was that his death was a fixed point in time and as such couldn't be messed with.

And Season 6 also gave us, amongst other things, "The Doctor's Wife" (awesome) and "A Good Man Goes to War" (which explored the concept of an angry, vengeful Doctor very well, and also gave us Commander Strax and Madame Vastra, so it wasn't a complete waste.)

What bothered me most about series 6 was that it didn't seem to have as focused a direction like the previous series had where each episode actually felt like it was leading to something bigger (ie, the cracks appearing at the end of each episode). There were episodes I genuinely enjoyed like the first two episodes of the series, 'A Good Man Goes to War,' and 'The Girl Who Waited,' but beyond that, this series wasn't quite as powerful as I thought it would be. :(:/

With series 6, I felt that a lot of the character development was forced rather than gradual (particularly in River's case), the pacing tended to fluctuate between fast and slow, and the whole premise felt a bit convoluted to me. The only consistent thing we got was finding out who River Song was (which was more confirming what people had long suspected), and the reasons for the Doctor's death, but even then didn't really lead to anything 'epic' or mind-blowing like the last series did.

B-E-A-UTIFUL!
