Tom Hardy reveals more about his character, including details regarding that freaky mask he wears in TDKR:

"With Bane, we're looking to give Batman a challenge he hasn't had before. With our choice of villain and with our choice of story we're testing Batman both physically as well as mentally."

Speaking of physical challenges, what can Tom Hardy tell us about Bane? "He's brutal. Brutal. He's a big dude who's incredibly clinical, in the fact that he has a result-based and oriented fighting style. It's not about fighting. It's about carnage. The style is heavy-handed, heavy-footed, it's nasty. Anything from small-joint manipulation to crushing skulls, crushing rib cages, stamping on shins and knees and necks and collarbones and snapping heads off and tearing his fists through chests, ripping out spinal columns. He is a terrorist in mentality as well as brutal action."

Costume designer Lindy Hemming also lets drop a few clues to his backstory as she talks about Bane's look. On the mask, she says, "He was injured early in his story. He's suffering from pain and needs gas to survive. He can't survive the pain without the mask. The pipes from the mask go back along his jawline and feed into the thing at his back, where there are two cannisters."

So TL;DR: Sounds like the same old Bane we get in the comics, only Bane's power source isn't venom, but gas. What kind of gas? I guess we'll find out in July.

It's somewhat of a bad idea to wear your costume under your robe. What if he had other company?

Considering he just spent the night capturing all the Arkham inmates Bane let loose in Gotham, I think it suffices to say he was too tired to think about that by this point. :P

He's at home and figures he's 'safe.' Sadly not. And as Aeka noted, he's completely exhausted.

Previous takes on Bane had him using the venom tanks to increase his strength, this Bane is already strong, but needs the venom gas to control the pain he's already in. sounds a little different to me. More of a limitation, less of an advantage.

Not a fan of Bane, not a major fan of Chris Nolan Bat-movies either, so this continues not to interest me that much.

I meant in terms of characterisation he sounds like the comicbook villain in that he's both incredibly physically strong, but also extremely intelligent in a "plays his cards right" sort of way. From what Tom Hardy has described of the character, that very much sounds like the take they're going with.

In shifting the venom-for-strength to gas-to-control-pain...well it's Nolan. In his attempt to depict a more "realistic" Batman, he's willing to make alterations such as these to make the character more believable for the "real world." He did after all shift the Joker from being chemically bleached to simply wearing war paint, while leaving the character's personality more or less intact.

Yeah, I'm interpreting it as him running some sort of "speedball" (not Speedball) combination, to kill the pain without nodding off.

A Nolan Quote about how Bane isn't Just Dumb Muscle

Since people have been complaining elsewhere that Bane looks like he'll just be a purely psychical villain, here's a quote by Nolan about the other things he'll be up to.
"Bane’s a very different kind of villain than Batman has faced before in our films. He’s a great sort of movie monster, but with an incredible brain, and that was a side of him that hadn’t been tapped before… [Tom Hardy] has this incredible disjunct between the expressiveness of the voice and the stillness of the movement of his body. He’s found a way to play a character who is enormous and powerful with a sort of calm to it, but also is able to be incredibly fast at times. Unpredictable. He just has a raw threat to him that’s extraordinary. It’s a very powerful thing when you see it come together, beyond what I had ever imagined. That’s what you get from working with great actors."

Yea, that's the good side.

Now I just hope he's not beaten by messing with his mask thingy :)

If he's not, they'd better have a bloody good reason why not, with the tubes sticking out like that, it's a ridiculously exposed design.

I don't mind if they're messed with, but having 'yank the tubes = win' is way too overdone with Bane.

Yeah. In the toons he seems to revert to a 90 pound weakling when someone pulls his tubes. As opposed to just a really large and very angry man who is still very strong and now even more annoyed that you yanked out his tubes. Still..Bruce...you know like 200 very powerful super-heroes. Just need to call. Swallow you pride. Supes or Power Girl or Cap Marvel or Wonder Woman or etc can take Bane down in what..two seconds?

Funny, there's a shot in the magazine where Hardy!Bane is standing with his back to us, jacket off, arms akimbo in a "FACE ME FOOL" gesture to Batman - very similar to the final panel of that above excerpt.
