While reading GREEN LANTERN #3 I was thinking about Hal, Sinestro, and Batman. And then it hit me like a power ring construct of a giant green boxing glove:

Hal Jordan doesn't like Batman because Batman reminds him too much of Sinestro.

Any validity to this theory? Maybe Geoff Johns is just writing Sinestro to sound as Batman would at his most Batdickish.

Wrong PARALLEL

Sinestro is a standard utilitarian dictator became frustrated when everyone was ungrateful for his help because his methods were too harsh. Sinestro clearly belongs in Dark Age Europe or perhaps Somalia - places were harsh methods of maintaining control are accepted due to lawlessness. After the GLC sent him to the negative universe, he seemed more like the Ealpis herth-3 Owlman or the Wrath. Swearing vengence against "order" because he'd fought for order his entire life and it had brought him nothing but pain and misery. Sinestro fought without mercy and was driven slightly mad when his allies rejected him. It's his rejection of others and their weakness that reminds me of Batman, not his distrust of Hal Jordan.

YIKES, that's a lot of typos

For the record I meant "earth - 3" not "Ealpis herth"

You know, I didn't like the Hal boosting and 'he's the greatest GL' stuff from before, but I'm already getting tired of the 'Hal's a half-trained incompetent,' stuff too.

If it wasn't the same writer I'd assume it was character assassination by a creator handed a character they didn't like.

Geoff Johns loves Anti-Heroes even more than he loves the Silver Agers.

Black Adam, Captain Cold, and Sinestro are his babies just as much as Hal and Barry are.

No argument there, but Hal's not so much an anti-hero as... a hero who's bad at his job?

It seems more likely that he mislikes Sinestro, Bruce, and the Guardians for the same reason - a general, pre-existing dislike of the dictatorial and humourless personality traits they all share, as well as significant chafing under any sort of authority (which he's also been shown to have in his air force career, and working for Carol).

Well said!

Or at least, Johns writes his Sinestro like the few Batman he writes :P

If Hal can somehow equate planetary dictator and warmongering bastard (He DID set up the Sinestro Corps) Sinestro, and Batman (Who has little or no sense of humour at times, and is a control freak, but has the advantage of NOT being an actual amoral, murdering psychopath), then he's more of an idiot than usual.

I have to agree that 'can do no wrong Hal' is bad, but 'can do no right Hal' is even worse. If Sinestro knew all these tricks and powers and such to do with the ring and Hal doesn't, that's the corps fault, not Hal's. I mean, he spent years with other members of the Corps beside Sinestro.

This also looks like it's suggesting Dragonball Z levels of power-creep for the Lantersn, who are already super-powerful magic wishing-ring bearing intergalactic policemen. I realize the plots never let them actually be any more effective at being space-cops than Reed Richards can be at solving cancer or even curing his friends radiation-based disfigurement, but STILL.

Why on earth would anyone want to read about this guy? I just don't get why I am suppose to care about this version of Hal Jordan. Especially when I could be reading about Guy, John, or Kyle.

It's more than a little crazy how much I detest Hal Jordan. I've only watched Green Lantern: First Flight and the pilot of the Green Lantern Animated Series, and it's just full-on dislike. One decision after another is just irrevocably pointless and stupid and full of *white man-hero exploring the unknown* tropes and..yeah.

Neither have I, but it's something that IIRC Joss Whedon commented on at a scifi convention and Nathan apparently just sometimes performs when the mood takes him at conventions.

If it's not true, it SHOULD be!

Though it's only 'power-creep' by downgrading Hal so he can get back to where he was.

I mean, I'm pretty sure he's used tricks like this before! I *know* Kyle has.

Isn't it a little odd that Hal is surprised the Lantern can go black, since it's been generating a green, white AND BLACK costume since the 1960's?

And shifting what's black and what's green is something he did in one of his origin stories (he added the green shoulders to Sinestro's dislike).
