So there's that monster and he ate everyone and Apollo fell from the sky and I survived this issue by reading it to Flo's Cosmic Love. FACT!

Thank you, Stormwatch, for reminding me why I loved them so much. Just look at Midnighter's expression.

Better-looking than Superman????????
Well yes, yes he is, thank you for noticing.

And two background Midnighter and Jenny interactions

I'll admit, this is the only thing that makes me still read this exposition-heavy, boring comicbook. Oh and they want us to care about what happens to Adam One - you know, that guy we met in issue 1 and who did nothing for the past 3 issues? Yeah, that guy.

I'm sure I read somewhere that DCnU Midnighter was supposed to be the more reserved and less 'out' of the two. On the strength of this issue, that seems wrong - he's totally getting his flirt on. Loved the 'Superman, only better-looking' line. And those little panels of him and Jenny made me really happy. Midnighter being good with kids is one of the things I loved about him in old school Wildstorm, and it's nice that somebody in the new 52 remembered that.

FWIW, Cornell is finishing on this book at issue #6; then there's a 2-parter by Paul Jenkins, then I don't know. I'm sad to see Cornell go (particularly for his apparent love of all things Planetary and Ellis-ish, and his affection for the Apollo-Midnighter relationship), and the notion of *even more* editorial dicking about and writer-changes on an Authority-related title really wears me down. That said, I know Cornell's pacing etc. hasn't been to everyone's tastes so a new writer may get more people on board. Eh, I dunno. The wave of DCnU writer changes doesn't make me happy overall. They don't seem to know what they want.

(p.s. The one thing I wasn't crazy about was that 'wake up!' slap. The it's-for-your-own-good slap is a trope I'd happily never see again.)

From the initial interviews and the way he talked about gradually introducing Apollo and Midnighter before they become a couple, I got the impression that Cornell was certainly planning to stay on the book a little longer than this.

Haven't read #4 yet, and I've not enjoyed it as much as Demon Knights (or MI:13) but I'm sorry to see him go.

I do wonder how many of the aspects that have attracted negative comments were entirely down to Cornell - if this is the hand of editorial at work, have there already been 'tweaks' to plots or characters?

Personally, I've been a bit disappointed by both Adam One and the Projectionist. Cornell's always been good at introducing interesting characters and then doing horrible things to them - with these two, they haven't really grabbed my attention enough to care...

On a very cynical note, I guess this means that all of Cornell's statements about the future Midnighter/Apollo romance are now up in the air and dependent on the whim of DC and the new creative team. Meh. :-(

For me, this book's biggest weakness is the terrible exposition dumps on nearly every page. There's not even an ounce of believability in that dialogue.

OBJECTION!!!!

Eh, honestly this is still one of my favorite books of the new 52, but seriously if they handle a crisis daily, then seriously they should play a part in big crossovers..or prevent such things.

why aren't guys like Midnighter and Apollo killing guys like the Joker and Lex Luthor. Okay, they're going for the little guys apparently, taking out criminals they feel are overlooked.

But with their skills and powersets that would take like ten twenty minutes of their time tops
