The New Mutants move house... and Doug explains how he puts things together...

We see Blink doing her teleporting thing as she saves lives in a fire in Arizona, vanishing before they can even thank her.

A few weeks later, in San Fransicso, it's moving day for the team, as Dani and Nate shift boxes from their moving van to their new house. We meet one of their neighbours.



Ah the rictus grimace of the old-lady-befuddled young person, always fun to see, provided it's not happening to you.

One never really imagines there being expat Latverians! One wonders if she's the sort of old lady who thinks that Doom is the best thing that could have happened to the old country, or she got out by the skin of her teeth, or whether her past is mostly irrelevant?

Nate, Berto and Warlock are also checking out the new house as they move in,



I love the toonlike notion of Warlock treating his eyes like binoculars, then unplugging one from his face and handing one over to Berto so he can take a gander too.

Berto mentions that whilst he understands why Amara can't help move in (She's trying to get a job) but he'd like to know why Doug isn't helping. Dani explains that he's actually working on a job for her regarding Blink, who Cyclops has assigned the team as their next "Find out what happened to..." mission...



Doug's looking healthier here than he has been the last few issues, whew! (I bet since he DOES speak Latverian, Mrs Livitz will probably take a shine to him, and make it her mission to feed him up!) (Also, styling socks there Dougie boy)

I'd forgotten that Blink was another resurectee from "Necrosha", I'd thought Doug was the only holdover reanimate from that story.

I like his reaction to Dani's next question...



I have to do a bit of pattern recognition in my job, but the thought of being able to hold all that in your head... EEK! :)

Shaping up to be a fun story I think, and the likely villain(s) of the piece appear to be in Doug's list of events (And no, it's not Starbucks...)



And one of the benefits of Doug's return has been the upping of his profile in terms of other mdeia, as these recent obtained sketch-cards show.

This is one of my favorite books coming out recently. It took something I like (the New Mutants) and mixed it with something I liked despite never reading. (Nate Grey.)


I'm also digging the 'mutants living real life' angle. I'd be happy if the book was just about them all working minimum wage jobs and dealing with uncomfortable situations.

It's sort of hard to be "living amongst the humans in as normal a manner as possible", when none of you need to work and you can order a fleet of Porsche's for shits and giggles because one of you is megarich.

Much like Dick Grayson getting a paying job, he doesn't need one because he has wealth to fall back on, but he felt it gave him a grounding in the real world.

Ah, but they didn't just get braised pork (yum!) They got a cute little puppy for Christmas in Journey into Mystery 632. A cute little totally not the spawn of the guardian wolf of the gates of Hel and a Hell-hound present from Li'l Loki Hela.

I'd like to point out that Blink was one of the few people in Necrosha who actually WASN'T brought back from the dead. Everyone assumed she was dead but she was actually stuck in another "realm" or something after she had gotten caught in her own teleportation field. Selene located her and yanked her out and then did the whole, "Oh, I heard you screaming for help and came to get you. Emma Frost heard you too, but she ignored you because you're too dangerous" lying thing.

Thanks for that, I wasn't sure how anyone who didn't have Doug's advantages with T-O code, and who hadn't been technorcised by Warlock and Magik COULD have surivived.

Please tell me the villains of this book are a group of Shakespearean Actors and/or a Heavy-Metal Band causing natural disasters with their ridiculous overacting/awesome guitar riffs. I will buy ten-thousand copies.

Doug still looks really gaunt to me here, but Warlock doing really cartoonish things is immensely entertaining, I... might start picking this up despite my (largely unfounded) dislike for the New Mutants.

I think this is a good jumping on point as they have set up a new locale, a new modus operandi (Living in the real world, and using only money they can earn (So no to Roberto using his phenomenal financial resources)) and their new overall mission as "Clean up crew" for old X-plot danglers.

The Metal Band would be the obvious choice, but Detroit Metal City already exists, so I'm kind of rooting for the acting troupe. I just keep picturing a bunch of Brian Blessed lookalikes delivering literally earthshaking soliloquies.
There is no way in which that is not awesome.

Btw I bet Mrs. Livitz and her "underrooms", dead husband and "here also there" is going to be a later story. Maybe there are rooms that sort of put parts of Latverian and San Fransicso's time/space together or something.
