And who should find her bleeding to death in an abandoned warehouse? Agent Chase, the woman who is on a single-minded mission to unmask Batwoman.

Holy crap, I miss the likeable Cameron Chase from Manhunter and even her own series. This one is a heartless monster.

yeah... Cameron is cold here... but it's all about the job... i do miss the likeable cameron too.

at the same time, i hope this isn't the end of Flamebird's career.

honestly, i hope kate realizes she made a mistake the way she treated bette, yes bette made a mistake going out half cocked, but Kate was cruel in the way she treated her...

that said, Kate is STILL one of my favorite characters EVER!

Huh. So that's how Bette got injured. I had to take a second look cause my first read through this issue I couldn't make out how exactly she got injured so badly in the first place. Then again, I was probably more distracted by Kate having sex with the cop lady.

On an unrelated note...what is it with female heroines getting Bone-themed villains? (ie, Catwoman, Batwoman, Steph Brown, did I miss any)? Also is the "bonehead" in this book Black Mask? As in the same Black Mask Catwoman shot to death in the post-Crisis continuity?

No, that's Director Bones, of the DEO. He's more like Amanda Waller in terms of hero/villain status; he's the head of a shadowy government operation who is rather morally grey but, technically, on the side of law and order.

There's nothing 'law' or 'order' about risking the live of a critically injured patient so you can play GUESS WHO'S UNDER THE MASK with a superhero. The actions portrayed in this scan are flat out fucking monstrous, and in our world, they'd deservedly be getting long sentences in prison for playing games with the medical care of somebody gutted by a chainsaw in the hopes of extracting information out of them. I hope these people are supposed to be the villains of the piece, because that's way beyond 'morally grey'.

I remember that she tried to blackmail J'onn J'onnz by threatening to reveal his secret identities to the world if he didn't agree to spy on the JLA telepathically and hand over their IDs. Though she was under orders at the time, and felt bad about it towards the end of the storyline.

There's nothing 'law' or 'order' about someone playing vigilante in the first place, either. Chase's job is currently dealing with Batwoman in anyway she sees fit, not dealing with messes like Bette got herself into.

Okay, so I'm kinda disappointed Williams III and Blackman decided to roll this way.. But at the same time, if we eventually get a scene with Bette kicking Chase's teeth in - then I guess that'll be satisfying.

What's your point? Just because Gordon and most of the GCPD tolerate Batman and his team or Batwoman, doesn't mean the government has to.

I think it's kind of unusual how Williams III seems to have a knack for bringing in kinda dickish government agents. I know it probably wasn't his story idea, but Promethea has the end of the world be partially triggered by the two agents tailing Sophie. And then there's the dickbag Government agency family of Desolation Jones.

Er... considering that the Batfamily works with the law, to whom they turn over criminals, for the express purpose of maintaining order, I'd say they're pretty clearly a lot more on the side of angels than the lady here, who psychologically tortures a critically injured girl while denying her vital care and risking her life, on the hope that she can somehow get valuable information from it. Could you picture Batman doing that? Hell, I couldn't even picture Deadshot doing that, and he's a wanton killer.
