And who should find her bleeding to death in an abandoned warehouse? Agent Chase, the woman who is on a single-minded mission to unmask Batwoman.

Holy crap, I miss the likeable Cameron Chase from Manhunter and even her own series. This one is a heartless monster.

yeah... Cameron is cold here... but it's all about the job... i do miss the likeable cameron too.

at the same time, i hope this isn't the end of Flamebird's career.

honestly, i hope kate realizes she made a mistake the way she treated bette, yes bette made a mistake going out half cocked, but Kate was cruel in the way she treated her...

that said, Kate is STILL one of my favorite characters EVER!

Huh. So that's how Bette got injured. I had to take a second look cause my first read through this issue I couldn't make out how exactly she got injured so badly in the first place. Then again, I was probably more distracted by Kate having sex with the cop lady.

On an unrelated note...what is it with female heroines getting Bone-themed villains? (ie, Catwoman, Batwoman, Steph Brown, did I miss any)? Also is the "bonehead" in this book Black Mask? As in the same Black Mask Catwoman shot to death in the post-Crisis continuity?

And that's why a cowl does more than protect your head. Kate's wig is a good idea as well.

Okay, so I'm kinda disappointed Williams III and Blackman decided to roll this way.. But at the same time, if we eventually get a scene with Bette kicking Chase's teeth in - then I guess that'll be satisfying.

Gorgeous Art a always, but this is a bad paint by numbers story.

All of a sudden Flamebird (an at least competent fighter and hero for years) is not able to handle no-name "Alley thug with a sickle", just so we can have the plot device of Kate being all remorseful for kicking her out.

Couldn't they have at least gotten a C-List Bat Villain to do the deed if they had to go there?

It's just weak.

To be honest, Flamebird is one of the reasons I'm getting Batwoman (always liked Bette even in her Titans West days). It's tough to see an experienced crime fighter being treated by both Kate AND the writer as...well...a plebe.

And this is not the Cameron Chase I remember. Hopefully she gets the same amount of humiliation for this nasty piece of work that Katrina Armstrong/Spy Smasher got in Birds of Prey. The Bat-Crew usually protects itself.

Besides isn't Batman Inc. a well-known fact in the reboot? And that the man pulling the strings is Bruce Wayne, one of the richest and most powerful persons on the planet? And hasn't Agent Chase gotten chasten-ed (if you pardon the pun) by the Bat-Crew before? I distinctly remember Cass Cain chasing her (or an agent similar to her) out of Gotham several years ago.

What's really odd, to me, is that JHWIII was co-writer for Chase in the 90's. And he's co-writer for Chase in this book now.

So why are the two portrayals so incongruous?

This is a veteran vigilante! A flashy, somewhat campy one, but a veteran who still kicked a lot of ass when the occaision arose!
That Kate disrespected her, I could get. Writers are not their characters after all, but it seems like Williams is hellbent on neglecting to give Bette the respect she deserves.

you know what'd be great? Chase is confronting Kate when Batwoman swings in. It'd be Barbara under the suit.

Great, strong book!

Easily the best New 52 book, be it in art, story, content, direction...even its connections to the past DCU pre-reboot!

All around, a fantastic gorgeous title!

It seems like this title gets more and more cheesecakey with each issue... it's starting to feel a bit intrusive now.
