The 'Richard' thing is really getting on my nerves. :/ And I kinda wanted Raya to hang around. Because I'm not really digging Dick/Babs in DCnU like I thought I would.

How can she not call him Dick? I was really hoping for Dick/Babs (as much as Dick/Kory is my OTP) because Kori not herself shall we say but I'm not even liking this Dick (or this book, which I will continue to buy...).

And Cass.

But yeah, BG #3 kind of killed my hope for Dick/Babs even tho, I'm sure there's some people that liked it... It just read like there was no chemistry... I think I'd feel better about this book if the Raya/Dick/Babs triangle wasn't there at all. Because in my head, Dick would choose one. He's always read as a one lady kind of guy despite that horrible annual to me...

true, but didn't Raya say 'who are we kidding' in this book? Of course, there is another (will not spoilage)

I may just have to fall back on my old favorite OTP: Dick/Cereal.

To be fair, Dick/nudity is just a natural assumption for an OTP. XD

According to Simone, DC tried to implement a new rule where you couldn't call him 'Dick' Grayson, presumably because of the numerous penis jokes that could be made out of the name, and wanted him to be called Richard instead. *shrugs*, it didn't stick, naturally.

That said, I never entirely bought Simone's explanation because in the Batgirl issue, it was clear it was meant to be a tonal thing, like she was addressing him sternly.

cause those jokes haven't been around for the last 30-40 years at least...

And I agree with the Batgirl issue and Babs' tone. (We can still call her that, can't we?)

Yeah, but with the Nu52 apparently trying to claw in some kind of newer audience - which seems to have worked to a degree, in all fairness - Having a guy be associated with dick jokes probably is something they'd want to avoid, given the teen crowd and the increased likeliness of those jokes with said age group.

And yeah, we can still call Babs Babs, unless DC decides that sounds too much like baps one day and changes it for fear of her being associated with A - bread products or B - slang for boobs.

Good point and you taught me a new slang word (in womens health and the ER, thought I'd heard most of the breast terms - I like Spridle and ChimChim, but those are just mine)

When I think Babs, I also think Streisand

I'd have thought Boobs was a better bet than Baps. Dick and Boobs does have a certain adolescent snicker built into it.

yeah well Dick isn't formal enough to insist on being called Richard so it just doesn't work for me.

It has nothing to do with him being formal or not formal or anything along those lines. Simone used it in a scene where calling him 'Richard' was tone-specific and even appropriate, since he was doubting Babs' ability to get back in the field and she was responding, and then Simone backpedalled by saying it was something editorial forced on her, but it didn't stick.

If she'd just said it was meant to fit the tone of the scene, with Babs responding somewhat angrily, then it would've fit. But since Simone is more in touch with the fanbase than some, and knows all about the current trend of blaming editorial for everything, it just felt like she was covering her ass.

Yeaaaaa, I didn't really quite believe her when she said that. It sounded more like trying to cover up awkwardness since no other creator ever mentioned it nor was Dick called anything else at the time.

No, I didn't quite buy it either, but then I don't like Simone in general, so I figured it best not to let my bias influence my line of thinking too much.

But yes, it did feel very much like she couldn't just think up the 'it's meant to be in a specific tone' argument which would, frankly, have fit perfectly, given the pages it was featured in.

I quite like it. I'm not reading enough DCnU books to know if everyone's calling him Richard, but from what I am reading, it's like Barbara has decided to use it as a sort of pet name for him. 'Everyone else calls him Dick, I'm the only one who calls him Richard' sort of thing.

I like the art on this as well. Though it's still weird to see Barbara smiling so much.
