So Johns continues his weird point-proving "I'll show you!" exercise with Aquaman. This actually getting really old really fast.

If they hadn't made him into a crazy mass-murderer (a hastily put together Editorial decision I think DC has regretted ever since since they have tried to retcon it or give him a heroic out or bring a past version of himself or made it all the fault of a giant yellow space bug) I think Parallax could have worked. He was a lot more interesting than what Johns has given us since his return. Heck, if you read some of Zero Hour (which I loathed especially what it did to the JSA) some of ParaHal's arguments made sense and in the end the multi-verse returned anyway (a few years later). Never got over some of the other super-heroes, especially Superman (who called Parallax in a follow-up issue a "super-villain") on the seeming death of their old ally through the hands of his best friend. That was cold. Very cold..and made their eulogies on how awesome Hal was after he gave his life in Final Night ring very hollow.

Ah, yes, these are the fun, likeable, relatable characters I was hoping to get in exchange for years of characterization and my facorite books.

I'm just going to go take a long bath and listen to Adele for awhile, laters.

It feels really weird seeing the League as basically rookies who haven't met yet looking just like their "present day" counterparts.

Im so used to flashback league stories featuring the characters in older costumes/older looks (for example for awhile with PAD era Aquaman you knew it was a flashback story because he didn't have facial hair).

So it's no longer the Lasso of Truth, it's the Lasso of Compulsive Over-Sharing? LOL, that is going to make such a great party game at the Watchtower!

"I save people because SOMEONE KILLED MY PARENTS, WAAAH!"

"I save people because CONAN O'BRIAN and CRAIG FERGUSON both make jokes about me!"

"I save people because I do EVERYTHING too fast!"

"I save people for the OREOS!"

True, but a couple of things: one, they had no problem killing all the invaders--even Superman. Now, I expect Diana to be fine with doing that, or even Arthur. But Superman?

I mean, I don't even recognize this guy AS Superman. I feel somewhat the same about the Perez one; Morrison's is so far the only one that seems like Kal.

And I get really tired of the bluster that occurs every time a new character shows up. I mean, these people strike me as jocks. And also, it seems to me this story could have been done in half the story time if Lee didn't have a splash every other page(at least).

And I think Superman might have been fine with killing the pilots if Barry hadn't nudged him away from that. That's not Kal.

Agreed, but the more I hate him for being a douche the more I enjoy the comic. It works well in a team setting, Batman laughing at him is awesome.

"They're just doing their jobs."

I want the entire League to turn to Flash and give him the raised eyebrow at that comment. WEEEAAAAKKK argument, man.

Time was I'd just say, "tell that to my ancestors that died in the European Death Camps," but really, there's enough recent atrocities in my own backyard that warrant a "bitch, please" to his comment.

Well -- I'm not sure there would be any other way to dispatch those aliens; if they were attacking my people I'd have no trouble choosing between us and them.

But you're right, Superman really does seem a lot less connected to humanity than before. I gather that's what they meant to do. I'm not thrilled with it, but I'm trying to look at the whole DCnU as just some long, parallel universe event. It keeps the blood pressure down. )

Superman is, apart from Morrison's, no longer NICE. Thing is, Superman is supposed to BE nice. He isn't likable and seems more "bitter loner" than anything else. And he's actually more alien than his cousin, which is strange because HE'S the one who was raised on Earth.

Dude, Darkseid has an ARROW pointing at his penis, basically. All he needs to do is pose, and the enemy will fall simply by laughing themselves to death at him.

I'm afraid we'll get into one of the situations where "Ok, I'm setting this character up as a jerk for a redemption arc... aaaand then once I'm done, they revert to jerk because redemption only came at the end and people only remember jerk. Then he'll get a couple more redemption/change of attitude arcs, which'll keep not sticking."

You put into words what I been thinking. I never hated Hal. I actually quite liked him. I'm more of a member of Team Kyle and Guy has grown on me in recent years, but that's besides the point. I mean I get being cocky but Hal's just been a plain dick to people for no good reason.
