Is that... any character we've met? It looks suspiciously like Baba Yaga.

She's from a fairy tale story has had several different variations. I think the Goose Girl is one of the titles.

The basic premise is the princess is going to marry a prince. She rides her magic horse Falada and carries a hankie with 3 drops of her mother's blood as a talisman. Along the way the princess loses the hankie, and the maidservant forces the princess to switch places. The false princess is about to marry the prince and the princess becomes a goose girl (and Falada's head is cut off). To make a long story short, the ruse is discovered and the maid gets shoved into a barrel pounded with spikes, etc.

There is a varient story where a girl marries a prince, and her stepmother comes in, "murders" (or enchants) the princess and sneaks her daughter in instead. Once the princess is returned, the stepsister and stepmother also get the barrel treatment.

Probably about one or two other stories that end up the same way, but those are the main ones I can think of at the moment.

A big part of me wants Boy Blue to come back (NOT to be with Rose though) since of all the Fables I think he deserved his end the least (and wasn't there a hint that Nurse Sprat had a hand in making sure he stayed sick). I'd love it if turns out the blue scarves and Stinky the Badger's prophecy about Blue returning turns out to be true after all. I wonder how the more "human" fables would handle that since it seemed to be largely a movement of the Farm fables.

Just some random musing...

I know that Flashpoint only incorporated the Vertigo lines that had solid ties to the DCU, but damn it'd be great to hear, "Brock Blueheart of The Homelands, you have the ability to instill great Hope..."

I mean, Stinky already has the blue wardrobe, and he's the leader of a quasi-religious movement, and would fit in with all the Saints, Brothers, Mothers, and what-have-you's on the Blue Lantern Corps.

The maid from the Goose Girl is the equivalent of the Ghost of Christmas Future. I'm talking about the ghostly figure asking Rose, "All done, then?"

That's the ghost of one of the villagers who killed the false bride.

The cricket is from The Cricket on the Hearth (one of Dickens' Christmas stories).

You should have included the little Match Stick Girl part, it was my favourite part of this issue!

I'm ashamed I didn't get the reference to the Goose Girl right away, but that IS a very interesting way of interpreting the ghosts.
