...Is it wrong that reading the detached madness of Neal Adams' hollow earth gibberings applied to Batman is actually much more entertaining to me than reading all that dull stuff about the Court of Owls or the ridiculous Talia vs. Batman Inc. storyline?

That the recap page manages to capture everything that's so fantastic about Odyssey in just a single page of Bruce Wayne wearing a Green Lantern t-shirt is only further proof of Adams' genius.

All I was thinking was, "Oh good, Bruce Wayne finally put on a goddamn shirt."

Damn I guess you're right it's not ENTIRELY perfect.

Maybe if he had the shirt only partway pulled on with the rest of his hirsute magnificence bared for all to see, crowned by the glory of a single one of his brash, yet playful man-nipples.

Okay yeah that would be basically ideal.

Nope. I believe Dan Didio's reply was that Adams had done so much for Batman they are basically letting him do whatever he wants.

Oh, it goes back. There's the Continuity stuff of course, which you know from 25 cent bins and compost piles everywhere, but then there was the last DEADMAN story from the first series, which makes you beg for Bob Haney, that's how much he sucks at writing.

And he also wrote the MUHAMMAD ALI thing, but I am told the final product--which doesn't suck--was heavily edited.

This was not.

There's someone who sometimes takes current comics and puts different, and hilarious, words in the balloons that deconstruct the comic as it goes. Is that MightyGodKing? I remember enjoying his takedown of ULTIMATUM.

He should have a go at this, whoever it is. I KNOW one of you knows who it is because I found his previous work via here.

That was originally him with Civil War - and he's done one-shot projects like "Countdown: Arena #1" and "Jim Starlin Presents Hawkman In Everything You Knew Was Wrong", but the Jeph Loeb parodies have mostly been the efforts of Gavok and ManiacClown on 4thletter.net.

But I really don't think they could improve this. It's self-parody to the extent that the parody emerges simply from reading the pages more than once.

I'm not even sure if "parody" is the word. More like "Self-revelation." Neal Adams has never, ever been a good writer. Ever.

My favorite is how he brings people in who he acts like you're supposed to recognize because they're so familiar to HIM in his brain. Like Rueben Irons, the man who looks just like the Riddler under his...Riddler mask...who Batman calls "Rueben Blades" as well.

I bring this up because who the hell is this Sylvester person?

The last issue of this will reveal Bruce's conversation companion to be an old (but healthy and fit) Jim Morrison; the two of them will toast each other with wheatgrass smoothies, prior to hammering tenpenny nails with their penises while a chorus line of nude gender-switched Joker clones do a can-can in the background.

After that, comics will be over.
