Four pages from IRREDEEMABLE 33, Part 3 of "Redemption," the IRREDEEMABLE/INCORRUPTIBLE crossover...

The parents dies in a car crash.

It's funny how he describes Max as holding a grudge, considering that, in the pages of INCORRUPTIBLE, we see that Max doesn't even have any idea that the Plutonian is the same person as the "wolf boy" who attacked him.

Oh well meaning dad. Not bad of an idea in theory but yeah. If you can rationalize him not needing ANYTHING since he's superhuman it just sets it up that he deserves to be emotionally neglected and that's never good.

Yeah, this kind of thing is likely to make him eventually turn into a fountain of rage and-

...Ohhhhh.

Yeah, that dad really took that idea to a bit of an extreme.

It's not often a boy gets a father straight out of a novel of ideas.

I thought that parenting style looked familiar. It even had the same end result, in its way.

A book called "The Chosen," by Chaim Potok. It's about two young men, Reuven and Danny. Danny's father is much like Plutonian's father here, and for similar reasons. Danny is incredibly intelligent, and his father hopes to teach him compassion by neglecting him (it makes sense in context*). It works, but Danny ends up taking a very different life path than what his father had intended.

*-- well, YMMV as to how much of Danny's character is because of his father and how much is despite it.

Except for the father being extreme in his 'super-parenting', at least the couple were by all appearances, really decent and nice to Plutonian. I dunno, seems kinda nice to see one foster set of parents not being completely driven into depression (somehow...) by having Plutonian near them.

Unless the carcrash was caused by him.

Which honestly, I'm not going to be surprised if it turns out that way. Because noone's allowed a happy anecdote in their past in this series. NOBODY.
